11: The Christian Life – Thought Starters — 3 Comments

  1. On the subject of “Self-Responsibility”, your last two questions make me think of these two of my favorite passages by Ellen White:

No outward observances can take the place of simple faith and entire renunciation of self. But no man can empty himself of self. We can only consent for Christ to accomplish the work. Then the language of the soul will be, Lord, take my heart; for I cannot give it. It is Thy property. Keep it pure, for I cannot keep it for Thee. Save me in spite of myself, my weak, unchristlike self. Mold me, fashion me, raise me into a pure and holy atmosphere, where the rich current of Thy love can flow through my soul. - Christ's Object Lessons, 159.

All true obedience comes from the heart. It was heart work with Christ. And if we consent, He will so identify Himself with our thoughts and aims, so blend our hearts and minds into conformity to His will, that when obeying Him we shall be but carrying out our own impulses. The will, refined and sanctified, will find its highest delight in doing His service. When we know God as it is our privilege to know Him, our life will be a life of continual obedience. Through an appreciation of the character of Christ, through communion with God, sin will become hateful to us. – Desire of Ages, 668.

I can testify that, when my life has been in harmony with these principles, my life has certainly been full of joy, and peace, and love...(Gal 5:22)

  2. Members of the church we should remember that we are all given assignments by GOD. Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed you in the woumb I knew you before you were born I set you apart, I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." with this in mind we need to ask GOD to help us identify what our assignments are, GOD will reveal to us how to relate to those in need. Infact when we surrender to GOD as a vessel for use HE will use us greatly. Our best example was the way JESUS worked HE healed the sick so we need to care for the sick. HE cared for the needy so we should do the same HE mourned with those who were mourning so we should mourn with those who are mourning. And this we should do for everyone in the church not to those who we know and are close to us alone but any one who is a child of GOD. (I have found such joy and blessings in serving others especially people I never new at all).
