How Do We Know What’s Really Real?

Conner Baptism 002

I began collecting baseball cards when I was 11, and Topps was the only baseball card company.  Soon after that, Donrus and Fleer joined the baseball card-making industry. In order to compete with the unwelcome newbies in the market, Topps started printing on their baseball card packages, “The Real Ones!” Even at 11, I knew Topp’s claim to be the only “real” baseball card company was nothing more than a mind game. Regardless of the company, they were all pictures […]

“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart’”(1 Sam. 16:7, NKJV).

Previously in this study guide we have noted that any goals set by individuals or churches must be able to be evaluated. While it is relatively easy […]

Read the following verses and then, keeping in mind the context of this week (the whole quarter, actually), answer the questions that follow: “ ‘And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which […]

Inside Story: Stubborn Atheist

I was an absolute Atheist, a teacher of physics and astronomy on a mission to convince my students in Bulgaria that God doesn’t exist.

Then my brother became a Christian—an Adventist Christian! I wasn’t sure what he believed, but I was sure it meant trouble. My brother tried to convince me to study the Bible and give Christianity a chance, but I refused to listen. In fact, I refused to allow him to say one word about it in my presence.

He […]

Conformity, Compromise and the Heart
avatar

My Bible reading this week included 1 Kings 3:1-15, which tells the story of the beginning of Solomon’s reign — and compromise.

1 Kings 3:1 tells of his marriage to Pharaoh’s daughter, a compromise conforming to the customs of the day.
1 Kings 3:3 tells us that “Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of his father David, except he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.” The latter was a compromise, conforming to the customs of the day.
1 Kings […]

13: Clothed in Christ – Teaching Plan
avatar

Key Thought: To be clothed in Christ means that God not only sees us as justified and righteous now, but also as we live Christ’s life, we are daily remade into God’s likeness.

1. Have a volunteer read Galatians 3:26-29.

A. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.

B. What does it mean we have “put on” Christ? Is that like putting on a garment? How do we “wear” Christ?

C. Personal Application: How […]
