A friend had told Mohammad’s parents about the Adventist school, and they went to inspect it. They found an old building in serious need of repair. The school’s principal assured them that the entire school would be replaced soon. But Mohammad’s parents didn’t see […]
Bien’s family refused to allow her to attend the Adventist church.

When she insisted, they tried to force her to live with her grandmother on a small island. Bien tried to hide her fear. She wanted to continue her schooling, but the island had no school.
She refused to be separated from the people at the church, people who were praying for her, who encouraged her, and who had shown her what true love was. When […]

Her brothers had tied her to the small boat before they left to get gas for the boat’s engine. They planned to take her to the small offshore island where their grandmother lived so she couldn’t attend the heretics’ church she had been visiting. She knew she had little time. She saw some friends passing nearby and called them to help her. […]

why he was upset, but I asked God to help me comfort him. I am a student missionary teaching the children of the chief’s people.
As I approached the chief, he reached out and hugged me. “Thank you for coming,” he said when he saw me. “Something is bothering me and I know you can help.” Confused by his greeting, I wondered […]
I am a Christian, but not an Adventist.
My husband follows a different religion. We chose to send our two sons to Zamboanga Adventist Elementary School in the Philippines because we wanted them to study in a school with strong moral values. We looked at several schools, most of which had better facilities, but we chose the Adventist school.
Our boys like this school. They joined Pathfinders and really enjoy the activities. The children and teachers are so friendly. I love working […]
I was arrested and jailed for a murder I did not commit. I had been a lay pastor of a little church before I was imprisoned, and I was angry at this injustice. Then a group of Adventists visited the prison, and I heard their message of hope. But I found it difficult to accept the Sabbath. In the same prison was an Adventist man who also had been wrongfully accused of a crime. He encouraged me to follow God’s […]

Three-year-old Jenny never missed the morning and evening worships in our village. So when she didn’t attend one morning, I missed her. “Where is Jenny?” I asked
“She’s sick, teacher!” one boy answered.
After worship I went to check on Jenny and found her lying in her family’s one-room house, writhing with pain. I prayed for her and mixed some simple herbal medicine for her. Soon Jenny fell asleep.

“Look,” I told my three teenagers, “we need to be united in our faith. We go to one church, and your new mom goes to another. But since you don’t like either church, then find a faith we all can follow.” It was a challenge, and I didn’t really expect them to meet it. But God had other plans.
I’m from a tribal area of southern Philippines, and my wife is from an island. We belonged to different Christian churches, […]
