The Innkeeper Did Have Room for Jesus! — 9 Comments

  1. Amen, Brother! As the old adage goes, “Time is the stuff life is made of.” The greatest gift a man can give his God is his quality time. Giving money is ok but our giving is trivial when you consider how God owns the earth and everything that’s in it. What our God longs after is our time—a time we spend with Him in a daily devotion. Without a daily devotion, we are lost (I was lost.) We live in a time of shallow materialism and endless consumerism. A Christian must anchor himself upon the Rock (Christ) or else he/she will fall. When I relocated from Africa to USA, I visited my local SDA church for the first time. Upon entrance I noticed everyone in the church was older (elderly) people. Being young myself (in my early 20s,) I asked one of the deacons where the younger people/members are? Perhaps in a different room worshipping? He said nope, this is the only service. As I continued life in America, I witnessed first-hand how the Devil is working in attracting young people away from the church. I too became a victim and left the church a few times. If I were to get in a car accident and die during those times, I would have missed the first resurrection. But thank God for His mercies!

The Bible says, “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth” (Ecclesiastes 12:1). Let us not give our God the “left-over” of our lives. Of course God will take it if that’s all we can offer (in the same manner he took the offer of that “inn keeper.”) But now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation (2 Cor. 6:2).

If you don’t have a daily personal devotion, set it up. If you don’t have time, make time (even if it means waking up earlier.) Our adversary, the Devil, is like a roaring lion. If we don’t feed on the bread of life (reading the Bible) and breathe the air of life (prayer) on a constant, daily basis, we’ll end up being like the folks during Malachi’s era. They had the audacity to offer a blind, lame animal as a sacrifice. I mean, how deceived did they have to be to do that? That animal ought to represent the perfect Son of God. God couldn’t be any more clearer in His instructions. He says in Numbers 28:31, “Make sure the animals are without blemishes.” It seems like the Devil launched his attack on our Jesus way before He was even born in a barn. The adversary was sending an implicit message to our Redeemer-to-be: "Cancel the trip. No way I will let you leave this world as perfect as you entered it. I will tempt you day and night till blood comes out of your pores and you cry, 'I give up.' Take a lesson or two from these blemished animals."

The Savior took a chance and still came (Praise God!) and won the battle for you and me (and it wasn't easy.) Even now He’s interceding for us. God help us to give Him our best (both in terms of our time and resources.) All Heaven knows He deserves it.

    • Love youR comments except "God will take it if that’s all we can offer". What do you mean "IF that's ALL we CAN offer". We ALL CAN offer MORE. We ALL have 24 hours in a day and EACH of us can determine to invest quality time with God. I have not been doing it, but I am convicted by this reading that I MUST.

I heard of a popular person (I think it was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. - if I am wrong I stand corrected) who said he has so much to do in a day that he MUST invest 2 hours in prayer (or something like that).

      YES WE CAN!

  2. As I read Williams admonition to give of our time to God if it is15 minutes in communication with Him instead of 30 seconds with now I lay me down to sleep or the Lords prayer, I couldn't help but remember a passage in Christ Object Lessons page 116. Nothing is wrong with those prayers, in fact many may incorporate them into their 15 minutes. Be sure to spend 45 minutes in the am though to get your thoughtful hour per day in. Now let us read from Christ Object Lessons page 116. You will notice in your android down load that there are page numbers now. Thankyou someone.

Christ is represented in the Scriptures as a gift. He is a gift, but only to those who give themselves, soul, body, and spirit, to Him without reserve. We are to give ourselves to Christ, to live a life of willing obedience to all His requirements. All that we are, all the talents and capabilities we possess, are the Lord’s, to be consecrated to His service. When we thus give ourselves wholly to Him, Christ, with all the treasures of heaven, gives Himself to us. We obtain the pearl of great price. Christ Object lessions page116
We don't find it to hard to give all of ourselves to our spouses, so it souldn't be any more dificult to give all to Christ also, first and utmost.

    • John that is a good quote. Here is the one I like:

Do you ask, "How am I to abide in Christ?" In the same way as you received Him at first. "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him." "The just shall live by faith." Colossians 2:6; Hebrews 10:38. You gave yourself to God, to be His wholly, to serve and obey Him, and you took Christ as your Saviour. You could not yourself atone for your sins or change your heart; but having given yourself to God, you believe that He for Christ's sake did all this for you. By faith you became Christ's, and by faith you are to grow up in Him--by giving and taking. You are to give all,--your heart, your will, your service,--give yourself to Him to obey all His requirements; and you must take all,--Christ, the fullness of all blessing, to abide in your heart, to be your strength, your righteousness, your everlasting helper,--to give you power to obey. (Steps to Christ, p 69.2)

  3. Actually, like me, the innkeeper had the best bed in the house available, his own. What a privilege was his/ours!

In the day that all is revealed, do you suppose the innkeeper will regret the choice he made? But still, that choice reveals the depth of Jesus' love for a sinful world, who knew a stable would be His first home, a manger His bed, and animals His roommates.

    • Good question Robert. You know a lot of people say the innkeeper would have let Mary and Joseph have his own room or made room for them if he had known who they were, but isn't everyone a child of God? Doesn't Jesus say what you have done for the least of these you have done for me? So does it really matter if the innkeeper knew who they were or not? Does it matter who the people are who need our help?

  4. Good food for thought, as I examine myself I am encouraged to give my all and not just what is left over and I hope we would all do the same. Point well taken.
