The Persecution of the Peace Makers — 5 Comments

  1. Isn't it interesting that the last blessing of the beatitudes is repeated to help us realize how important faithfulness will be in that hour? Jesus is truly our Wonderful Counselor. His own example of being faithful unto death should increase our faith and fill us with "strong confidence" in our Savior's promises and blessings.

Let us remember in that great hour of trial the words of Balaam, when he exclaimed by the power of the Spirit: "Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!"(Num 23:10). Death is not the "last end" of the righteous, but rather, their (ever)last(ing) end is living in the presence of God "with exceeding joy", where they "shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace/prosperity"(Ps 37:11).

  2. Matthew 10:34 not 10:24 where Jesus said "think not that i am come to send peace on earth,I came not to send peace but a sword.......those who reject Christ will pay with their lives where as those who are faithful will have eternal life..

  3. All too often, when people study the Bible with us, we don't share with that person that they will be counting the cost. The cost is high for being a believer. Giving up self doesn't happen without a fight and some loss. Then there are all kinds of problems that happen with Christians, when instead, we should be loving one another and caring. False accusations, criticisms, and more abound inside of the church. We can mistakenly mislead people to think that everything will turn out ok now that they are a Christian. Sometimes, people have a much harder life being a Christian, though I wouldn't exchange this life for my old life. I look forward to the day when love is prized over self exaltation.

Thank you William for an encouraging post.

    • Yes, Jane. Until self is fully surrendered, the cost does seem high. Too high for most. Unless Jesus as the Lamb of God is lifted up above all other doctrines, few will find victory over the temptations to deny the truth in order to please self. Unless Jesus is truly received through saving faith, self will remain supreme, and the fallen nature is too strong to overcome alone, and the cost will seem too high. I'm certain that most, if not all, who passed up the opportunity to board the ark, would tell any who asked them why, that they would say "I would have had to leave too much behind".
