The Secret to Effective Ministry — 7 Comments

  1. It is not the fear of punishment, or the hope of everlasting reward, that leads the disciples of Christ to follow Him. They behold the Saviour's matchless love, revealed throughout His pilgrimage on earth, from the manger of Bethlehem to Calvary's cross, and the sight of Him attracts, it softens and subdues the soul. Love awakens in the heart of the beholders. They hear His voice, and they follow Him. Ellen White, Desire of Ages, pg 482

    • Maxine, thank you for your comment. Be encouraged to know that your desire towards God is an evidence of Him drawing you to Himself. My advice to you is to focus on finding Jesus, not so much as becoming a member in the church. When you pray ask Him into your heart and make a decision today to give yourself to Him. Then trust that He will do what it takes to save your soul. I will be praying for you.

      • This frustrates me some what when I see a response like this.
Please understand I am notg being critical of anyone, just getting strait to the point of things even I have been guilty of as a none church going Christian.
We must comprehend that God wants us saved more than any prayer we can offer.
Their is no doubt God is drawing Maxine, and everyone, me included. But so many times I have seen people sharing their plea for some one to reach out to their lonliness and yet the church takes the attitude that they should wait for the "lost" (or how ever they may judge another), until they step foot on the churches teritory and how dare they even consider that the church should make the effort to reach out with the attitude Jesus lived as our example.

Another thought, every one tells us "find Jesus" but finding one so great and covered in such a Broard

        • Hello Col Davis. I'm unclear of what you are frustrated about. Are you saying that the advice I gave her was not proper or are you frustrated with Maxine's response? If it is the former, please use the opportunity to give Maxine your advice.
I don't share your experience of churches not willing to reach out to the "lost" as you have described it.
BTW, my advice to Maxine (and to myself and everyone else) is safely based on Jeremiah 29:13: And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

  3. What does it mean to lift the name of Jesus? It is more than talking about it, it is living His word in our lives. Satan and his many agents will come around to remind us on the umpteen times we have failed God. There will be moments we find ourselves discouraged and may even to decide to keep a distance from God. However, God works in mysterious ways, we will soon find ourselves face to face with Him. And He once again reassured us that He has not given up on us and He used his soothing balm to sooth away our pain. With that reassurance and love, we pick ourselves up and asked the Lord to hold our hands as we take another step forward with Him.

  4. What we will present to others is that which gets our greatest focus personally. We can only lift up Jesus above the earth if we hold Him above all earthly things in our own experience.

We must be his "witnesses" (martus) and not merely recite "facts" about Him. We cannot be witnesses without the Holy Spirit's power. We cannot have the Holy Spirit's power if we are not crucified with Christ in the likeness of His death, which was settled in Gethsemane when He fully relinquished His will and accepted God's will in it's place.

The word "martus"(witness) in the Greek means: record. What is a record? We all have listened to records and now listen to DVDs. They are recordings of what they have been exposed to and engraved with. As we grow in the knowledge of Jesus in our daily experience His very life will be engraved in our hearts and we will be His living records, then others will hear Him in our words and see Him in our actions, whether we are in Sabbath School or not. It will be our theme at all times, but in an appropriate manner, as Jesus was always appropriate. If Jesus is in us, only He will be seen and heard. If we are walking and talking with Him, others near us will be drawn into the ongoing conversation.

As Jesus magnified His Father at all times, in places, with all people, we will magnify Jesus at all times, in all places with all people if we are walking "in newness of life", which can only be if we are [daily] in the likeness of His death.
