(Reviewed by Inge Anderson)

I’ve read other books on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, but they did not move me.  They only confirmed what I already knew intellectually. But this book is different. I think it’s a “sleeper” that deserves much more attention.

Written by Ron E. M. Clouzet who shares his personal experience of being overwhelmed by a sense of God’s love which left him weeping for an hour, this book lives and breathes through the passion of one who writes from experience about the work of the Holy Spirit. In this deeply personal book, you will find new  insights of the work of the Spirit in the history of God’s church, and you will be stirred by accounts of what happened when particular individuals and a particular church surrendered themselves to allowing the Holy Spirit full control.

The Spirit is ready to fill our greatest need. Are you? Am I?

While the book is valuable for individual reading, its greatest potential is in group study, perhaps in prayer meeting. Each chapter ends with “Questions for Reflection and Group Study.” The book is downloadable in Kindle format from Amazon, where it is available in Paperback format as well.

Ron Clouzet has also written the companion book for the Sabbath School Lessons of the first quarter of 2017. See below.

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another helper…the Spirit of truth.” John 14:16, 17, NASB

Do you long to understand and experience more of the Holy Spirit’s transformative work in your life? Are you afraid of hindering the Spirit, or do you have questions about what it means to pray in the Spirit? Find the answers in this book!

You will also discover how the Holy Spirit is the One who unlocks Jesus’ life and ministry so it can be finally understood and embraced by sinful human beings. This is what Paul meant when he wrote that “Christ lives in me.” Galatians 2:20, NASB

The Holy Spirit provides some profound theological, historical, and linguistic, biblical insights that will deepen your understanding of the nature and work of the Holy Spirit. Written in a readable style, it will allow concepts and personal implications to sink deeper. A thoughtful reading will further your understanding of the Spirit and His work more than anything you may have read to date.

First published in 1978, this booklet by J. L. Shuler is an Adventist classic, as is any book by this intrepid soldier of the Lord. It is available in Kindle and paperback format, with the latter running to 64 pages. You can read a little about Elder Shuler in this interview of of him by Daniel Guild, published in 1972 in Ministry Magazine, when he was 85 years old, “The Life and Work of J. L. Shuler.

Shuler takes the view that God is ready to take His people home, but are His people ready?

Short as it is, this book should awaken us out of our Laodicean sleepiness.
