HopeSS: From North and South to the Beautiful Land (March 21, 2020) — 5 Comments

  1. Nice lesson. It is a pitty that you did not touch the most important part of the 11th chapt. from verse 40 onward. I think that is the crucial part of that prophecy relating directly to the God's Church today, in the last days. That the babilon will flood God's church with its philosophy and teachings and many adventists will be overthrown and leave the church.
It would be very eye opening to study in what ways the King of the North would have access to the people of God. Maybe pastors sent to babilonian univertsities to get their doctorates? spiritual formation?, protestant literature among adventists?

    • I don't read that passage as saying that Babylon will flood the church. It is very easy to make assertions about what the church is doing wrong by using descriptors that ring bells for readers but in the big picture, I think we can still see God's leading. Perhaps the problem is that we do not see problems solved according to our timetable. Certainly, we need to be on our guard against the deception of Satan but let's not stereotype people and things.

For example, I did my PhD in a secular university (computer science) and among my colleagues, I have a number of doctoral friends with PhDs in Theology from secular universities. Their contribution to my spiritual understanding has strengthened me. And I have to add that CS Lewis's book like "Mere Christianity", "The Problem of Pain", "Miracles" have opened my eyes to aspects of Christianity that I had not even thought about. Discard the stereotypes and look to those sources that give you a practical insight into the love of Jesus.

      • Sorry but it is not me saying anything about what the church is doing wrong. Neither I make any attempt to doubt in God's leading this church (SDA) I believe it with all my heart and with God's help will always do.
And I can certainly accept your explanation when you say: quout "I don't read..."
if you don't that is fine with me.
But that what the prophecy says, that the King of the North will enter the Beautiful Land and many will be overthrown.
Is it really difficult to understand that?
And it says that the Moab and the Edom and part of the Ammonites will escape his hand.
Ellen White explains that majority of adventists will leave the church and their places will be filled by those who hear the call: "come out of her my people..."

What be the reason do you think that many of our brothers and sisters will leave the church? What do you think?

The prophecy is there and as being a part of the Book of Daniel we can assume that is must have important role to play. God gave it to the prophet for a reason. What reason? To warn. Now it is up to us the readers to ask the right questions.
And sorry, I do not set up any timetable for God to follow. I don't have any expectations in that matter.
But I can certainly see the prophecy being fulfilled today among our members. It cannot be denied. And it has to be faced. If not, many will die.

And please do not put on the same shelf studying computer science at a secular university and studying theology at Fox university which is a jesuit institution by our pastors.
        What stereotypes do you mean?
By the way did you also like "The Chronicles of Narnia" by CS Lewis

        • Sorry, it was not a personal condemnation but an observation on my part.

You asked why our brothers and sisters leave the church. That is a very good question and we need to look into our hearts to find the answer. I reckon that many folk leave the church simply because they are forgotten about. They simply leave and are not missed. That is an indictment of the way we share the love of Jesus. If Babylon has entered our church it has masked the fact that we are not loving one another in an inclusive way.

        • Dear Mr. Sleszynski,

I respectfully request that you please read Matthew 13:24-30 and prayerfully search your heart in the presence of Jesus, who spoke those words in Matthew’s gospel.

After witnessing some very sad and destructive experiences in my home SdA church that was purging “apostates” from the congregation, I made a decision not to put myself in the place of God and not to do a work that God assigns specifically to his angels, but not to the “saints”. To do otherwise, I view as dangerous ground for a Christian to tread.
