Roy E. Gane is assistant professor of Hebrew Bible and Ancient Near Eastern Languages at Andrews University Theological Seminary, Berrien Springs, Michigan. He has been with the Andrews faculty since 1994.
Born in Sydney, Australia, Dr. Gane attended Union College, graduating in 1977 with a bachelor of arts degree in theology and a bachelor of music degree in piano performance. From 1978 to 1992 he studied biblical Hebrew and other languages of the ancient Near East at the University of California, Berkeley, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 1983 he received his master of arts degree and in 1992 his doctorate, both in biblical Hebrew language and literature, from the University of California, Berkeley.
Before coming to Andrews University, Dr. Gane served as assistant professor of religion at Pacific Union College for two years. He is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, the American Oriental Society, the Adventist Theological Society, and the Adventist Society for Religious Studies. He has written a number of journal articles, including " 'Bread of the Presence' and Creator-in-Residence," Vetus Testamentum 42:2 (1992), pages 179-203
He is married to Connie Clark Gane, who holds a master of arts degree in Mesopotamian archaeology from the University of California, Berkeley. They have a young daughter, Sarah.
