Introduction: Precursors for Prophecy — 5 Comments

  1. I don't think going to the bible even with a rebellious heart is a waste of time. How many people have gone to the bible in anger or rebellion or just trying to prove it wrong and found healing for their souls, more then you might think. Our mighty and compassionate God is able to reach out and change that rebel with a bible in their hand.

    • I like your comment, Karie. Yesterday I heard a similar story on 3ABN radio. It was about a person that read a Bible verse about praying for your enemies. Feeling convicted, the person started praying every day. For the first few days the person felt like she was not making any progress because she was still harboring ill feelings that were not allowing her to have a forgiving spirit.

After a few more days, her prayers began to increase in substance and sincerity for the enemy and the enemy’s family and the ill feelings started to subside!
The Holy Spirit inspired bible verse was cutting like a two edged sword.

What if she had heard a pastor say “Don’t even study the Bible if you have a rebellious heart! Don’t begin to pray for your enemies if you have a rebellious heart”?

Lord, I pray that this lesson would help me to love more and be more forgiving, even when I feel like I have been hurt by my enemies, in Jesus’ mighty name, amen

    • I imagine the author or editor was trying to convey that people can read the Bible and get no spiritual edification out of it, which we know is true. There are plenty of aggressive atheists who know the Bible well.

But I agree with you that saying it's a waste of time is too harsh. God is still working to reach people even when our attitudes are wrong. I don't think I would try to limit Him.

    • Dear Beryl,
That sounds like a prayer/request to direct to God. 🙏 He promised to hear you!
In my own life, I've found I need to stop doing some other things to make time to spend with God. That may be the way to become more passionate about God's plans. I pray that He will give you wisdom to make good choices. 🙏
