Comrades in Arms – Teaching Plan
Key Thought : Jesus reveals Himself to us and then allows us to choose to receive or reject His revelation. As we choose, we are acting our part in the great controversy
Comrades in Arms February 13-19, 2016
1. Have a volunteer read Mark 3:14.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. After ordaining the twelve to preach, what did Jesus want them to do first?
c. Personal Application : How can we spend time with Jesus and know Him to represent Him properly to others? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “Why do you have faith in Jesus and what the Bible says about Him? How do you know it’s true?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Matthew 8:23-27.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What powers does Jesus exhibit that help the disciples figure out who He really is?
c. Personal Application : How do you respond to someone who says the miracles like the Red Sea, calming the storm, and the manna from heaven are just stories? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “If Jesus has this power over nature, why do so many people, even Christians, become affected by natural disasters like typhoons, hurricanes, flooding, fires, and earthquakes?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
3. Have a volunteer read Mark 9:33-37.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What is the lesson Jesus taught for the disciples and anyone who claims to follow Jesus?
c. Personal Application: What has Jesus asked you to be willing to give up to follow Him? What have you given up? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your neighbors states, “I’ve seen too many preachers and priests that act like everyone should bow down to them because of their position. Many enter politics and community leadership. I don’t see Christian servants.” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Luke 24:25-27.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. Why did Jesus point the disciples to the Scriptures rather than just tell them that He was Jesus and risen like He said He would?
c. Personal Application: What’s more convincing to you: believing what the Bible says, or your own experiences of what you see and hear? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
