Out of the Whirlwind – Teaching Plan
Key Thought: In the face of God, everyone is eventually wrong. Our ideas fade into insignificance, as He gives answers to our misdirected questions.
1. Have a volunteer read Job 38:1-4.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. What was God’s first question and what is implied in the question?
c. Personal Application : If God were to ask you a question about your life, what do you think He would ask, and how would you answer? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “What reason did God have to ask Job where he was when God created everything? Was He saying that men cannot understand God, that men can’t speak for God, that men can’t question God?” How would you respond to your relatives?
2. Have a volunteer read Job 38:4-7.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What is the importance of the acceptance of the Biblical doctrine of Creation?
c. Personal Application : How much do we know today with all our scientific knowledge about Creation and the world we live in Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “What is the difference in the morning stars singing and the sons of God shouting for joy?” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read Job 40:1-7
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What was Job’s response to God’s questions to Job?
c. Personal Application: When human beings saw God face to face, what was their reaction? What do you think your reaction would be? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your neighbors states, “In Job’s time, they didn’t understand a lot of science and nature like we do now. We have advanced so much in science that we know a lot about nature now.” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Job 42:1-6
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. Was there really a reason for Job to repent in dust and ashes? After all, he was the righteous one compared to his companions.
c. Personal Application : Could we have wrong ideas about who God is, or are you pretty sure you understand God’s way and character?
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
