Key Thought: Peter identifies the means by which we can be assured to make our calling and election sure and never fall.
1. Have a volunteer read 2 Peter 1:1-4.

a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. What does it mean to be partakers of the Divine nature?
c. Personal Application : What would your life be like without faith in Jesus Christ and His promises? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “What hope and comfort can you glean from how Peter’s shortcomings and flaws could be overcome by Christ working with him?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read 2 Peter 1:8-11.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. Why do so many of us fail to be what we are and could be in Jesus?
c. Personal Application : How much are you like Christ in your life? In what areas could you do better? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “Jesus has already saved us. We didn’t have to do anything, neither do we have to do anything now. Salvation is grace and grace only. Our good works contribute or add nothing to our salvation. Any attempt at good works is legalism.” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read 2 Peter 1:13,14.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What does Peter mean by putting off this tent?
c. Personal Application: How do we, or can we, on a regular basis, make Jesus the center of our daily lives? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “Putting off this earthly body shows that Peter believed in the Spirit leaving the body at death so that he could be with Christ.” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read 2 Peter 1:12-15.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What virtues that Peter lists are evident in our daily lives? Are you growing or treading water, or floating downstream?
c. Personal Application : How can we learn to deal with the reality of death because of what Jesus has done for us? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
