Wednesday: Before the Sanhedrin — 2 Comments

  1. To get to the point where Paul was for the sake of Christ required a man with a real and strong experience with Him. Are we ready to forsake everything for the love of Jesus? To the point of denying ourselves and follow the truth?

  2. The high priest Ananias commanded those who stood by him to strike him on the mouth.
Why? The statement by Paul implied an accusation the council and the high priest had arrested Paul was a mistake.
How dare you prisoner (Paul) can claim innocence in the presence of the council.
Paul’s reaction, God will strike you, you whitewashed wall!
Why did Paul make a very strong accusation against the high priest?
It would have been good to hear the tone of Paul’s voice when he had made the statement.
The high priest striking Paul is contradictory to the very law Paul is being charged with violating.
In spite of the disobedience by the High Priest, Paul still shows the respect to the high priest.
How easy it would be for us to forget the character of our redeemer when being persecuted for our faith?

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
