3: The Law as Teacher – Teaching Plan
Key Thought: True education points us to a life of grace, of faith, and obedience to Christ. We can still study the role of God’s law in Christian education.

A. Have a volunteer read Deuteronomy 31:12,13.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- What does it mean to fear the Lord? How can we love and fear God at the same time?
- Personal Application: How have you kept the law of in remembrance for yourself and your children on a regular basis? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “How can you show the importance of obedience to the law of God, and still be able to show why that obedience is not the source of salvation?” How would you respond to your relative?
B. Have a volunteer read Deuteronomy 31:22-27.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- Why is the law a witness against us and how does it help us to learn it?
- Personal Application: Why is music and songs a good way to teach both children and adults? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “Why is the book of the law that Moses wrote and put in the side of the Ark of the Covenant different from the Ten Commandments that God wrote that went into the Ark?” How would you respond to your friend?
C. Have a volunteer read 2 Chronicles 31:20,21; Mark 6:25-27.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What is the key as to why Hezekiah prospered?
- Personal Application: How have you dealt with adversity when troubles have come upon you? Did you ever question God as to why? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “My son left the church and got involved in drugs. But while in prison, he gave his life back to the Lord. He was attending prison ministries and wanted to be rebaptized when released. But then he caught COVID and died in prison. Why would God allow that to happen?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
D. Have a volunteer read Luke 2:51,52.

- What does this teach us about Christ’s example of honor, respect, and obedience?
- Personal Application: How can we learn to better submit ourselves to those who have charge over us? How can we be better teachers to those we have an influence on? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
