Key Thought: Genesis allows us to gain God’s instruction on the history of Creation, the purpose and responsibility of the family and marriage, lessons from nature, and warnings about an enemy and the forbidden tree.

A. Have a volunteer read Genesis 2(7-23).
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- What do we notice about God’s purpose in creating, placing, and employing Adam?
- Personal Application: What lessons can we benefit from nature as we understand them from Scriptures? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study : One of your relatives states: “Why are shame and fear so fundamental to humanity? Can a person who doesn’t believe in God be shameless and fearless?” How would you respond to your relative?
B. Have a volunteer read Genesis 3:1-6.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- What do you notice about the information the serpent offers Eve?
- Personal Application:: How can we still find power from God to help us overcome temptation in our lives? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study : One of your friends states, “Why did Eve listen to the serpent in the first place? She was warned about staying away from the tree and the consequences of eating from it. Didn’t she take the warning seriously?” How would you respond to your friend?
C. Have a volunteer read 2 Peter 1:3-11.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What does Peter write that we must do in order to seek restoration of God’s image in our lives?
- Personal Application: Since not all knowledge is good, how do we know the difference between good and evil knowledge? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “I don’t think of God as being legalistic. He is a God of love and wants us to be happy and not worry about rules so much..” How would you respond to your neighbor?
D. Have a volunteer read 2 Peter 2:1-17..
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What powerful and condemning words is Peter saying here?
- Personal Application : Why is authority; whether social, family, or church so important that it should be exercised properly and properly submitted to? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
