13: Heaven, Education and Eternal Learning – Teaching Plan
Key Thought: Part of what makes heaven “heaven” is that learning continues forever. Education is foundational to life. Everything we know, we learned. There is so much that we don’t know.

A. Have a volunteer read Revelation 21:4.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- How different will our existence be from this world without sorrow, death, and pain?
- Personal Application: Why is the hope of eternity so important to our faith? What would we have without it? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “I don’t believe there will be such a world to come. I’ve got enough troubles to worry about here and just surviving rather than dreaming about some pie in the sky by and by stuff.“ How would you respond to your relative?
B. Have a volunteer read 2 Corinthians 4:17-19.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- What hope do these texts offer us?
- Personal Application: Does the hope of the future help you in any way in dealing with the pain and troubles and sorrows of the present? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “What are some of these unseen things that you are waiting for? What did Jesus ever promise you that you are looking forward to?” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read John 3:16..
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- Why is this passage so inclusive and exclusive at the same time?
- Personal Application: What does this text tell us about God’s purpose and nature for us and what kind of purpose and nature should be in us? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “How can this idea be used to help those who are close to or have given up on the world and themselves, seeing no good nor future in living?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Zechariah 13:6..
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- Why are the scars and wounds still present in the glorified body of Christ forever? What does that tell us about the results of sin?
- Personal Application: How can we better appreciate what Jesus has done for us through the cross? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
