A. Have a volunteer read Isaiah 6:1-4.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- Why did God appear to Isaiah sitting on His throne? What significance did it have for Isaiah?
- Personal Application: God encouraged Isaiah at His temple. How do we know or can see that God’s temple is a place of encouragement from the Bible? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “Have you had a discouraging situation when all seemed hopeless? In what ways did the Lord sustain you and your faith during this situation?“ How would you respond to your relative?
B. Have a volunteer read Isaiah 6:5-7.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- Why did the seraph use a live, burning coal from the altar to cleanse Isaiah’s lips?
- Personal Application: Have you ever come so close to God that you have realized just how sinful and unholy you are? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “If God is in charge, why do innocent people suffer? Can we reconcile our understanding of God’s character with the bad that happens to people? Do we need to?” How would you respond to your friend?
C. Have a volunteer read Isaiah 6:8.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- How do we speak boldly and come to the throne boldly and yet keep a meek and humble spirit before the Lord and men?
- Personal Application: During your Christian walk, have you ever forgotten why God called you in the first place? Do we ever need a wake up alarm to do what we were called to do? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “Wasn’t Isaiah already a prophet of God? Why did God have to ask him again if he would go for Him?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
D. Have a volunteer read Isaiah 6:9-13.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- Why did God give such a strange message to Isaiah to take to His people?
- Personal Application: Have you ever felt a hardening of the heart or rebellion against God’s Word or prompting Spirit? Why is rebuke such a hard thing to accept? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
