God’s One and Only Son

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 12, 2022 by William EarnhardtMarch 26, 2024avatar

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 NLT The Adventist Biblical Research Institute agrees with the modern translations of “one and only” instead of  “only begotten.” Hebrews 1:1-14 make it clear … Continue reading –>

Thursday: Today I Have Begotten You

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 12, 2022 by Sabbath School LessonDecember 31, 2021avatar
The Second Coming

Hebrews 1:5 reports the following words of the Father to Jesus: “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You” (NKJV). What does it mean that Jesus was “begotten,” and when did this happen? Does not this show that Jesus was somehow created by God sometime way in the past, as many believe? Read Hebrews 1:5; 2 Samuel 7:12-14; Psalm … Continue reading –>

Jesus Looking at Earth

Hebrews affirms that God created the world “through” or “by” Jesus and that Jesus sustains the world with His powerful word. Read Isaiah 44:24, Isaiah 45:18, and Nehemiah 9:6. Because in the Old Testament the Lord affirmed that He created the world “alone” and that He is the “only God,” how can we reconcile this affirmation with the … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: He Is the Radiance of the Glory of God

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 10, 2022 by Sabbath School LessonJanuary 1, 2022avatar
The Transfiguration of Jesus

Read Hebrews 1:2-4. What are some of the things that this passage teaches us about Jesus? In this section, we will focus on the portion that says, “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature” (Hebrews 1:3, ESV). Read Exodus 24:16-17; Psalm 4:6; Psalm 36:9; and Psalm 89:15. How do these texts help … Continue reading –>

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 10, 2022 by Corinne KnopperJanuary 10, 2022avatar

The titles of the thirteen Sabbaths of study this quarter give us two hymns to use as the themes: Hymn 593 – In Times Like These and  Hymn 177 – Jesus, Your Blood and Righteousness. Sunday speaks of the last days in which we live just as we sing in  Hymn 617 – We Are Living, … Continue reading –>

Monday: God Has Spoken to Us by His Son

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 9, 2022 by Sabbath School LessonJanuary 9, 2022avatar
Holy Spirit and the Word

Read Hebrews 1:1-4. What is the central idea of these verses? In the original Greek, Hebrews 1:1-4 is only one sentence, and it has been argued that it is the most beautiful in all the New Testament from the point of view of its rhetorical artistry. Its main assertion is that God has spoken to us through His … Continue reading –>

Sunday: In These Last Days

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 8, 2022 by Sabbath School LessonJanuary 1, 2022avatar
The Resurrected Christ

The first paragraph of Hebrews reveals that Paul believed he was living in “the last days.” Scripture employs two expressions about the future that have different meanings. The prophets used the expression “last days” or “latter days” to talk about the future in general (Deuteronomy 4:30-31; Jeremiah 23:20). The prophet Daniel used a second expression, “the … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
