04: Divine Wisdom – Lesson Plan
Key Thought : Wisdom refers to a diving being – the pre-incarnate Christ, who was Cocreator with the Father and served as mediator even before sin.
[Lesson Plan for Divine Wisdom January 19, 2015]
1. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 8:13-17.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. Why is being proud and arrogant listed with evil?
c. Personal Application: Does God only love those who love Him? What is this saying to you? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your relatives states: “Movie stars, athletes, company execs, scholars, and the attitude of most of society promotes the vision of self worth expressed in pride, arrogance, and smack-talking and disrespecting others. Are you saying we shouldn’t have a good sense of self-worth?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 8:22-31.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. How is wisdom related to Creation?
c. Personal Application: Why is Christ’s role as Creator important in understanding His role as our Redeemer? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your friends states, “Is wisdom a metaphor for Jesus Christ Himself in Proverbs 8, or is this just saying that wisdom was not given us from God, but it has been a part of God from the beginning?.” How would you respond to your neighbor?
3. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 8:32-36.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. Is it better to seek happiness or to seek God? Is there a difference?
c. Personal Application: What makes you happy? How does your relationship with God and obedience affect your response? Share your thoughts..
d. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “We don’t know what good is without evil. So we need both to balance each other out. To really be happy, we have to know sadness. So we have to know sin and sadness to know the truth of happiness and goodness.” How would you respond to your friend?
4. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 9:7-13.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. Why does this say we should not reprove a wicked man or scorner? Aren’t we supposed to reprove sin?
c. Personal Application: Why is a noisy, argumentative woman considered foolish and simple? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
