1. Have a volunteer read Genesis 2:1-3, Exodus 20:8-11..
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- How is the word “day” used in these contexts?
- Personal Application: Can a person who doesn’t believe in a literal six-day creation believe in God’s ability to create a new heaven and a new earth and change humans to immortal in a short period of time? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “The Bible says a day is as a thousand years, so God could have created things in thousands of years instead of literal days. Science seems to prove this idea.” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Genesis 2:1-3, Exodus 20:8-11, Revelation 14:7.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- How is the understanding of the Creation week tied to the fourth commandment?
- Personal Application: What would the three angels’ messages mean to us as a church if Creation was not a literal six-day period? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “What difference does it make what day we worship? We all worship the same God, only in different ways. You Adventists make a big deal on the old Jewish Sabbath.” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read Genesis 1:26-28, 2:18, 21-24..
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What do these texts tell us about God’s ideal for marriage?
- Personal Application: How do we minister to those who have problems of sexual identity, problems of self-control, and a lack of sexual morality? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “Marriage isn’t as sacred as people make it out to be. People make mistakes in marriage, some people aren’t compatible, and it’s better to live together for a while before making any vows. If people can’t get along; it’s better to divorce and find somebody you can get along with. This isn’t the 50’s anymore.” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Genesis 1:31, 2:15-17, 3:1-7.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What happened to God’s perfect Creation?
- Personal Application: In what ways can we see God’s hand in a very good Creation? In what ways can we see sin and Satan’s hand in destroying Creation? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
