Key Thought: We are accountable with our covenant with God. He points out our condition, warns us about destructive consequences of abandoning His protection, and urges us to allow Him to heal and cleanse them.

A. Have a volunteer read Isaiah 1:1-9.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- What is the Lord saying? What were the sins of Judah?
- Personal Application: Do you believe God has preserved cities and towns because of a small remnant of people that are faithful? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “What does Isaiah’s message have to do with us today?“ How would you respond to your relative?
B. Have a volunteer read Isaiah 1:10-15.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- Why did he use the imagery of Sodom and Gomorrah? What point was being made?
- Personal Application: What message can we find for ourselves today in these texts and in the context in which they are given? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “Why did the Lord reject the worship the people were offering Him? Does it matter how and why we worship?” How would you respond to your friend?
C. Have a volunteer read Isaiah 1:18.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- Why does God ask His people to “reason together” with Him ?
- Personal Application: How do people please themselves in opposition to the blessings and guidance of God? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “Can God forgive us and cleanse us if we refuse to change the way we think and live? Could they get cleansed without repentance and change?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
D. Have a volunteer read Isaiah 19,20.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- Why is obedience such a large part of the plan of salvation when so many people are not?
- Personal Application: In your own experience, how have you seen blessings and cursings based on obedience or disobedience? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
