1: What Happened -Teaching Plan
Key Thought: Sin shattered the loving fellowship between God and us, but God seeks to restore the relationship through the plan of redemption.

1. Have a volunteer read Genesis 1:27.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- What does it mean that we were created in God’s image? In what ways were we created like God?
- Personal Application: What does this mean to you in importance that you were created in God’s image? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “Did God create anything else in His own image? Were angels or animals or beings on other planets created in His own image?” How would you respond to your friend?
2. Have a volunteer read Genesis 1:28,29.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- What does it mean that God blessed Adam and Eve? What does that mean in their relationship with God?
- Personal Application: How should we look at, interact with, and do with our environment? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “Is there anything bad with our having cars, houses, games, and having fun with what we have in this world? The Amish shun much of what we use and enjoy. Do you think God looks at our lifestyles and use of our time?“ How would you respond to your relative?
3. Have a volunteer read Genesis 2:16,17.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- Why is it when a parent tells a child not to do something, that’s what they decide to do?
- Personal Application: Does God test us in our loyalty and faith today? How are we tested in our loyalty and faith today? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “Why did God put the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden in the first place? If God hadn’t put the tree there, they might never have fallen.” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Genesis 3:1-6.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What steps did Satan take to bypass Eve’s natural caution to not believe or trust him?
- Personal Application: Since we know what’s right and wrong, how are we tempted and encouraged to bypass our senses and do the wrong thing?” Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
