I did My Very Best! Or Not.

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 4, 2022 by William EarnhardtAugust 17, 2022avatar

In the third grade I was diagnosed with learning disabilities. I was told I could do the work; I just needed to try harder. Well, sometimes I was not just tired of trying harder, I was just tired of the work. Period. For example, in English we had to find the noun, verb and adjective … Continue reading –>

Part 6: Temple Plot Foiled By Andrew McChesney Months passed before Junior and Mother found out why Father had changed his mind and went to Junior’s baptism. Evil spirits had forbidden Father from going to the Sabbath afternoon baptism, so he had turned down his son’s invitation to attend. On the day of the baptism, … Continue reading –>

Further Thought: Read Ellen G. White, “The Night of Wrestling,” Pages 195-203, in Patriarchs and Prophets; “Consecration,” Pages 43-48, in Steps to Christ.   “This will, that forms so important a factor in the character of man, was at the Fall given into the control of Satan; and he has ever since been working in man to will and to … Continue reading –>

Thursday: The Need to Persevere

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 3, 2022 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 29, 2022avatar

Read the story of Jacob’s wrestling with God (Genesis 32:1-32, NIV). What does this story say to us about perseverance, even amid great discouragement? (Keep the whole context of Jacob’s situation in mind before you answer.) We can know what is right and exercise our wills to do the right thing; but when we are under … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: Radical Commitment

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 2, 2022 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 29, 2022avatar
Broken Eye and Glass

“If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell” (Matthew 5:29-30). Dwell on the words of Jesus in the above verse. Would you call His words radical? If so, … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: The Disciplined Will

Tempting Food

One of the greatest enemies of our wills is our own feelings. We are increasingly living in a culture bombarded with pictures and music that can appeal directly to our senses, triggering our emotions — anger, fear, or lust — without our realizing it. How often do we think such things as “What do I … Continue reading –>

6: Struggling with All Energy – Singing with Inspiration

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 31, 2022 by Corinne KnopperJuly 31, 2022avatar

Having scanned through the lesson quarterly, there are so many hymns from which to choose a theme. In effect, there is a commencing theme hymn which changes through the quarter to the finale theme hymn. To start with, we could use: Hymn 552 – The Lord’s My Shepherd or  Hymn 545 – Savior, Like a Shepherd. … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
