4: The Flood – Teaching Plan
Key Thought: God’s response to wickedness has two sides. It contains the threat of justice, leading to destruction for some; and yet, His response promises comfort and mercy, leading to salvation for others.

1. Have a volunteer read Genesis 7:10-13, 24.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- How does the Flood remind us of the Creation account?
- Personal Application: Is there anything in us that needs to be destroyed in order for us to be recreated? Share your thoughts..
- Case Study: One of your relatives states, “What is the difference between the forty days and the one hundred and fifty days? What did they eat on the arc for forty days?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Genesis 8:1.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- What does it mean that God remembered Noah?
- Personal Application: How can you know that God remembers you in times of stress and tribulation and trials? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “What are some of the common characteristics of the people before the Flood and the people living today in the last days?” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read Genesis 8:20.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What was the first thing Noah did when he came out of the ark? Why?
- Personal Application: What is the principle of God’s dietary rules? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “Why did God change man’s diet after the Flood? Did the Flood do away with the dietary laws, or were they still in effect until the cross?” How would you respond to your relative?
4. Have a volunteer read Genesis 9:8-17.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- What is the significance of the rainbow and how is it related to being a sign of His covenant?
- Personal Application: How does the rainbow indicate that the Flood was not just a local event in a small part of the earth? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
