A. Have a volunteer read Isaiah 7:17-25.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- What is God describing that will happen to the land? Why shouldn’t we be surprised at this?
- Personal Application: How do we keep from just trusting all things of the world – what affects our senses? Will it make a difference for us? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “What is wrong with Ahaz asking for help from another nation to fight Manassah who had joined forces with another ally against Ahaz?“ How would you respond to your relative?
B. Have a volunteer read Isaiah 8:1-10..
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- Why does Isaiah tell us he legally recorded the child’s name and had intercourse with his wife?
- Personal Application: Despite repeated mistakes by Israel, the Lord was still willing to save them. How can we be assured when we fail and fall in our spiritual life? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “What can we do to learn to keep our faith intact so that when calamities come, we can stay firm?” How would you respond to your friend?
C. Have a volunteer read Isaiah 8:11-15.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- How do you understand the idea of “fearing” God? Cane we fear God and love God at the same time?
- Personal Application: Is there anything we should be afraid of that maybe people of the world may not fear? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “Are there things people of the world would fear that we as Christians shouldn’t fear? What are they, and why shouldn’t we fear them?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
D. Have a volunteer read Isaiah 8:16-20.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- How has spiritualism influenced movies, books, TV, and popular culture?
- Personal Application: In what subtle ways are we exposed to the principles behind the occult and manifestations of spiritualism? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
