8: Education and Redemption – Teaching plan
Key Thought: God intended this process of education to distinguish us from other life forms. He made us in His own image- He did it so that He can teach us and we can learn from Him, until His image is reflected in ours.

A. Have a volunteer read Genesis 1:26,27 ; 5:1,3.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- What do these texts teach us about how God originally created humanity, and what happened after sin?
- Personal Application: What is our commitment to Christian education at home, in church, and in school? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “I haven’t got time to teach my kids, that’s what the schools are for. All I want for my kids is to stay out of trouble, get a good job, support themselves, and be happy.“ How would you respond to your relative?
B. Have a volunteer read Isaiah 11:1-9.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- What does this reveal about the teaching role of the Messiah?
- Personal Application: What part do we have in having the knowledge of the Lord going all over the world? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “You can’t share what you don’t know. In order to be effective in sharing the knowledge of God worldwide, or even in your neighborhood, you need to learn what is true and know how the people you are sharing it with?” How would you respond to your friend?
C. Have a volunteer read 2 Timothy 3:14-17.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What part does Scripture take in Christian education?
- Personal Application: How do we properly apply some Old Testament instructions regarding civil, social, and health laws as teaching material for our time? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “There’s not much difference between public education and church school. Why should I spend extra money for my child to go to church school when they will learn the same thing in public school?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
D. Have a volunteer read I Kings 4:29-34.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What does wisdom mean, and why is it so important?
- Personal Application: How can we have wisdom? How can we pass it on to those who come after us? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
