Sabbath: Symbolic Acts

Sabbath School Net Posted on October 30, 2015 by Sabbath School LessonNovember 6, 2015avatar

Read for This Week’s Study: Gen. 4:3-7, Num. 21:1-9, Isa. 29:16, Rom. 9:18-21, Jeremiah 19:1-15, Heb. 5:14, Jer. 13:1-11. Memory Text: Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? (Romans 9:21). Every student of the Bible knows that it is filled with … Continue reading –>

Man Climbing Pile of Money to Graduation Cap

The next morning John went to a campus prayer service. Sister Jeremiah was leading out, and she asked for volunteers to pray for all the students. John prayed for the students who had needs, and silently he prayed for his own need. A couple hours later he met a friend on campus. How are you? … Continue reading –>

Man Preaching False Ideas

In Jeremiah 18:11-17, we find the Lord telling His people to stop doing the things that they are doing. Jeremiah 18:11 says: So turn from your evil ways, each one of you, and reform your ways and your actions (NIV). Jeremiah 18:12 basically has the Lord saying that He already knows they won’t listen to … Continue reading –>

Thursday: Plans Against the Prophet

Potter and Clay 1,

Read Jeremiah 18:1-10. What important principles about prophetic interpretation do we find here? In those same verses, what crucial spiritual principles do we find as well? Despite all the evil, the Lord was still willing to give people a chance to repent. Hence, here too we see the grace of God being offered to those … Continue reading –>

Baby in Jail Ball and Chain

Even the harshest critics of the Bible would have to concede a major point: the Bible does not gloss over human foibles and weaknesses. With the exception of the spotless and sinless Son of God, few Bible characters whose lives are presented in any detail in the Bible come away without their weaknesses and faults … Continue reading –>

Colorful Heart

Jeremiah’s harsh words to Pashur and the nation (Jer. 20:4-6) weren’t his own; they were not uttered out of his anger at having been locked in the stocks for a day. They were the Lord’s words to him for the people. What comes after, though, comes directly from Jeremiah’s own heart, written down under the … Continue reading –>

Stocks, punishment

The job of the prophets has always been to convey God’s message, not to count how many people accept or reject it. Generally, the number of those who accept what the prophets preach at the time they are preaching it is low. For example, though we don’t know how many were alive at the time … Continue reading –>

Golde

Removed as we are by more than two thousand years chronologically from Judah, and perhaps even further removed culturally and socially, it’s hard for us to understand all that was going on in the time of Jeremiah. When reading the Bible, especially the harsh warnings and threats that God uttered against the people, many people … Continue reading –>

Memory Text: O Lord, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me (Jeremiah 20:7). One thing anyone who has followed the Lord … Continue reading –>

School in Africa

John grew up knowing that God was calling him to become a minister. When he tried to ignore or avoid the call, he found that he could not. In Zimbabwe, work for students is nearly impossible to find, so John had to rely on his mother to pay his school fees when he enrolled at … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
