“Behold I Will Allure Her … and Speak Comfort to Her”

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 18, 2020 by William EarnhardtAugust 30, 2020avatar

Monday’s section of this week’s lesson asks,  Why is how we say something as important as, or even more important than, what we say? How do you react to this statement: “Truth is truth, and people need to take it or leave it”? What’s wrong with this true statement? A couple of years ago I … Continue reading –>

Hit the Mark – Ministering Like Jesus

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 18, 2020 by Curtis HallAugust 18, 2020avatar

“Your mission, should you choose to accept it…” That was the opening line in the television series Mission: Impossible. The show was based around a group of secret government agents who would be given, via a tape recording, secret tasks of grave danger. After delineating what the mission entailed, the recording would go on to … Continue reading –>

Laying on Hands

Read Matthew 4:23-25 and Matthew 9:35. What threefold approach formed the basis for Christ’s ministry? How did He meet people’s needs, and what impact did it have on their lives? Jesus combined the threefold ministry of teaching, preaching, and healing. He shared eternal principles so all of us could live lives of meaning and purpose. He said, “I … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: Jesus’ Healing Ministry ~ Part 1

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 17, 2020 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 10, 2020avatar
Jesus Heals

Our Lord’s method of evangelism goes beyond memorized speeches and canned presentations; it is as rich and dynamic as life itself. Every day we rub shoulders with people who have all kinds of needs: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Christ is eager to meet those needs through us as we show concern for people’s loneliness, … Continue reading –>

08: Ministering Like Jesus – Singing with Inspiration

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 17, 2020 by Corinne KnopperAugust 17, 2020avatar

The title for the quarters lesson pamphlet immediately brings to mind  Hymn 499 – What  A Friend We Have in Jesus. Our Memory Text shows Jesus care for each person who needs a Shepherd:  Hymn 104 – My Shepherd Will Supply My Need,  Hymn 192 – O Shepherd Divine,  Hymn 197 – The King of … Continue reading –>

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 17, 2020 by Michael FrackerAugust 24, 2020Michael Fracker

Have a volunteer read Matthew 5:13,14. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is. … Continue reading –>

08 Ministering Like Jesus – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 17, 2020 by Joyce GriffithAugust 17, 2020Joyce Griffith

Jesus’ attitude toward people. With His superior intellect and constant desire to minister to others, couldn’t Jesus have derived great joy just from being popular among those around Him? What was His choice instead? We don’t place a high value on salt today, although salty foods such as popcorn, potato chips and French fries go … Continue reading –>

Monday: Jesus’ Treatment of People

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 16, 2020 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 16, 2020avatar
Flashlight and Salt Shaker

Jesus’ goal was to bring out the best in people. Even when the circumstances were unusually challenging, He responded with grace. Luke’s gospel records that the crowds “marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth” (Luke 4:22, NKJV), and John’s gospel adds that “grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (John 1:17, … Continue reading –>

Sunday: Jesus’ Attitude Toward People

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 15, 2020 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 15, 2020avatar
Jesus' Attitude Toward People

Jesus always looked for the good in others. He drew out the best in them. One of the criticisms the religious leaders of His day had with Jesus was that He “receives sinners and eats with them” (Luke 15:2, NKJV). They were concerned because He fellowshiped with “the ungodly”. Their view of religion was one of … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
