1. Have a volunteer read Romans 9:12-15
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. Was God’s covenant with the Jews an unconditional covenant?
c. Personal Application : Even though God calls everyone to repentance and salvation, what criteria do you think He has in choosing certain people to reach the lost? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “This Scripture seems to confirm the idea that God pre-ordained some to be saved and some to be lost. How do I understand that this doesn’t show that God isn’t playing favorites and being arbitrary?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Romans 9:17-24.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What point is Paul making about God’s faithfulness despite human failure?
c. Personal Application : Could God choose to turn away from the Adventist church like He did Israel because of their unfaithfulness and compromise in doctrine? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “Do you think God chose some of our leading evangelists, or did they choose themselves by their own decision and/or parental influence for schooling and personal ambitions?” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read Romans 9:25-29.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. How do we know the difference between a Spiritual gift and a natural talent? What role does God play in either?
c. Personal Application: How often have other people failed you? How many times have you failed others? What can we learn from these failures? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “If it is easy to be saved, why does this seem to say that only a remnant, or a relatively few, will be saved?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Romans 9:30-32.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. How did Israel misunderstand their divine destiny in their relationship with God?
c. Personal Application : Have you ever really blown an opportunity and yet got a second chance? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
