Key Thought : Judges teaches us that God responds to human cries for help using feeble humans who themselves are in need of salvation.
Conflict and Crisis: The Judges January 16-22, 2016
1. Have a volunteer read Judges 41-7.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. How confident were the soldiers in Deborah? c. Personal Application : Is there any person you can put your full confidence in? Why or why not? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “Why does this portray God as One who approves killing your enemies and destroying whole races of people?.” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Judges 6:12-16.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. Why did God choose to use fallen human beings to deliver Israel? Couldn’t He have used a legion of angels?
c. Personal Application : How can you relate to Gideon’s thoughts in God’s call to you today? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “Why did Gideon blame God for all the troubles Israel was going through? Didn’t he know why they were being oppressed?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
3. Have a volunteer read Judges 14:1-4.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. How do these texts tell us that God can use us, even at our weakest moments?
c. Personal Application: What are some ways we can seek guidance to determine what decisions and choices we should make, if we are torn and don’t know what to do? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your neighbors states, “God used Sampson to fight against and destroy many Philistines, but how much more could God have done if Sampson had been more faithful to God and discerning in his personal desires?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Ruth 1:8,16,17.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What is significant about Ruth wanting to go with Naomi?
c. Personal Application: How can we discern that God is seeking to use us as His agents to bring deliverance to the church or community? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
