The Curse Causeless? Discussion Starters
- The Big Questions. [Lesson #6 November 5, 2016] Now as we listen to Eliphaz, how does the story of Job broaden? How would you feel if you were suffering from a disease or injury only to have a “friend” tell you it was all your fault? Does Eliphaz seem to be reminding Job that being human means taking the blame for God’s displeasure? What does this mean to you?
- A Man and His Maker. Does Eliphaz think Job should be just as kind and helpful in dealing with others after disaster strikes as we was before? What about us when we encounter difficult times? Is there a danger in following the counsel of Eliphaz to Job? What was the message Eliphaz took from his startling dream in the night? Does that fit you and me? Is it true that bad things happen to good people?
- The Foolish Taking Root. What do you think of the debate by the two men? If evil comes on you, is that proof that you are in the wrong? A business deal goes sour. Did that happen because of your faulty evaluation of the circumstances? Share with the class your thoughts on the eight verses highlighted.
- Rush to Judgment. As you read the comments of Eliphaz, Were you impressed by the common sense in Elphaz’s words? Did you hear yourself thinking, “Sure. Of course that’s true”? Ellen White said, “…[W]hat we do is the result of what we are.” Isn’t that Job’s friends comments about him? True as it may be, what else do we need to know about why we face trouble?
