Escape From the World – Teaching Plan
Key Thought: To escape worldliness we need to cultivate the spiritual life in Bible study, prayer, Christian service, fellowship, and contemplating the wonders of nature.
1. Have a volunteer read Hebrews 11:1-6.

a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. What is the crucial component that must be mingled with our prayers?
c. Personal Application : What do you usually pray for? What does it tell you about your priorities? What other things do you need to pray for? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “Too many people pray in two ways. One is in a repetitive or boring way, using God’s name over and over. The other is not really a prayer, but preaching to those listening. To me both are foolish and useless.” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read I Kings 3:14, I John 5:2,3.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What does it mean that without love one is not capable of good?
c. Personal Application: What does love without obedience look like? What does obedience without love look like? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “What does it mean that God’s commandments aren’t hard? Isn’t it true that Jesus came to keep them we weren’t capable of keeping them? So how are the commandments not hard now, when they were impossible to keep before?” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read Ephesians 3:16-19.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. How do we receive the Spirit in our lives?
c. Personal Application: How can we develop a greater sense of God’s presence in our lives? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “If God gives us the Holy Spirit, what will God do to ensure that we will gain victory in spiritual things? How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Romans 8:5,6.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. How does studying the Bible safeguard us against sin?
c. Personal Application: Does reading the Bible lead you to pray more? Does praying lead you to study the Bible more? Do they complement each other? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
