11: Living By Faith – Lesson Plan
Key Thought : God’s laws and wisdom are linked together as a guide to life. Wisdom comes from submitting to God’s will.
[Lesson plan for Living By Faith March 9, 2015]
1. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 28:4,7,9.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. Why do some people think of God’s laws as restrictive to freedom?
c. Personal Application: How differently would your life be if you weren’t keeping God’s law by faith? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your relatives states: “The music, TV, and movie theater all glorify questionable, anti-Christian lifestyles and attitudes. What can we do practically about this situation?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 28:12-13.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What does it mean when the wicked rise, a man is hidden?
c. Personal Application: Why is it so hard to confess our sins and wrongs that we sometimes try to ignore or hide, even from our own memories? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your friends states, “Most people don’t accept the Bible as true or relevant today. They considerate it superstition. And many so-called Christians have accepted superstitious pagan practices as Christian. So what knowledge do people follow if they reject God’s word?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
3. Have a volunteer read I John 2:15-17.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. How can we keep from falling into the trap of desiring money and the things it provides?
c. Personal Application: What things of the world do you love? Are we supposed to hate all that pertains to life? Share your thoughts..
d. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “To know if someone is a true Christian or not, I want to see how they treat their family members; how they treat others on the job, and how they interact with their neighbors.” How would you respond to your friend?
4. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 29:15.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. Do you know any parents who use very little discipline on their children? Do these children actually bring their mother to shame?
c. Personal Application: What lessons did you learn as a youth that stuck with you as an adult now? How has that knowledge helped to make your life better now? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
