Old Testament Faith – Teaching Plan
Key Thought: Abraham’s faith in God’s promises counted him as righteous. The same gift of righteousness is available for us today who share Abraham’s faith.
1. Have a volunteer read Galatians 3:6-8.

a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. What is Paul speaking of when he refers to the “Scriptures”?
c. Personal Application : How often do you find yourself thinking that you’re doing pretty well? You don’t do bad things like others. Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “Do you tend to think some parts of the Bible are more inspired or more important than others? What parts don’t seem to be inspired or important to you?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Genesis 12:1-3.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What are the aspects of the covenant God made with mankind?
c. Personal Application :How do we step out in faith and believe in something and Someone we cannot prove outside of our own experience? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “Why is it hard for people to accept salvation by faith alone apart from what we do? What is behind the difficulty in accepting this crucial truth? ” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read Galatians 3:9-14.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. How did Christ deliver us from the curse of the law?
c. Personal Application: How does God reveal His will and promises for your life? When was the last time you felt the distinct voice of God? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “Why did God illustrate the substitutionary death of Christ so long before He ever came to the earth? Why is it repeated so often?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Galatians 3:1-5
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. How important is it to have good theology? How do you respond to those who say that what we believe is not as important as who we believe in?
c. Personal Application : Do you spend enough time sharing about individual faith journeys? What methods could be used to encourage others to develop a stronger relationship of faith? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
