Sabbath: “Doth Job Fear God for Naught?”
Read for This Week’s Study: Job 1:1-22, Job 2:1-13, 1 Cor. 4:9, Gen. 3:1-8, Phil. 4:11-13, Matt. 4:1-11, Phil. 2:5-8.
Memory Text: “But he said to her, ‘You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?’ In all this Job did not sin with his lips” (Job 2:10, NKJV).
The book of Job opens up to us a whole new dimension of reality. It gives us a glimpse into the great controversy between Christ and Satan. And by doing so, it also provides us a template, a frame, an outline to help us better understand the world that we live in, a world that so often baffles, dazes, even frightens us with what it tosses our way. But the book of Job also shows that this great controversy is not merely someone else’s fight, in that we have nothing to do with it. If only that were the case; unfortunately, it’s not: ” ‘Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time’ ” (Rev. 12:12, NKJV). Satan has come down to the earth and to the sea, and we know for ourselves that his wrath is indeed great. Who among us, as flesh, hasn’t felt that wrath?
This week we will continue to look at the first two chapters of Job as we seek to get a greater understanding of how we fit in as the great controversy continues to rage.
Keeping the Sabbath seems to be a way to avoid some of the wrath of satan and and God Almighty as I understand the current events of our times.
Lance, I don't quite understand your comment, especially i that you seem to be lumping the "wrath of Satan" with the wrath of "God Almighty."
But I will try to share what is involved in Sabbath keeping. First of all, I believe that Sabbath keeping is meaningless without a relationship with Jesus Christ who said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me." (Matt 16:24 NLT) That means that we need to make a relationship with Jesus our first priority - spending time with Him, talking to Him in prayer, listening to what He says to us through the Bible and our conscience, sharing what He is doing in our lives and working with Him doing what He did when He walked this planet. As we do this, He will sanctify us - that is, make us holy. And the Sabbath is a sign of His sanctifying work in us. (Eze 20:12) Thus the Sabbath is important as part of our relationship with Christ. We make a special effort to spend extra time with Jesus every Sabbath, as well as every day of the week.
Keeping the Sabbath may well subject us to the "wrath of Satan," but we will be kept safe "under His wings" (Ps 91:4) as we rest in the Saviour's love.
I see in Romans that it is not the law that saves us but faith and faith alone in Jesus Christ that saves us from the controvercy and keeping His mighty hand of protection over us but also remember it doesn't matter what affliction. You are experiencing ALL things happen to Glorify the God head even we were created for that very purpose it is the decisions we make that show glory to Him or not
I sat next to my dead sons body and yelled as I wept "God is good, God is good,God is good." I was standing in the face of Satan and defending God..He has a plan, "I know plans I have for you, plans of good and not of evil to bring you to an expected end."
I believe from last week' s lesson. What happened to Job wasnt a " bet" like some fellow brethren were saying. When you bet you bring something and the other part also brings something, so in this case God put forward Job but the devil never brought anything forward.
I do believe that God chose Job for our own purpose of witness to what will eventually come to us- God's people. There was no bet on Job...Our God will never bet on our lives if so He would have told Satan bet on Job's life. I do believe God knew the mind of Satan at that time...He knew what Satan was bringing to the table. God says in His word "He doesn't give us more than we can bare". Though, Job's affliction was great, it prove God's word that He does not give us more than we can bare...God was there at the time.
Don't we think of the comfort that it was in the life of Christ to study the story of Job? And how thrilled Job Will be when he learns that story instructed and encouraged his Savior!
This hydra-headed battle of the planet in which humanity is immersed has already been decided il le glace de Dieu and the battle is not really ours but God's hence, we've been equipped with God's amour of truth, righteousness, faith, peace, the word of God and prayer (Eph. 6:10-18) , so as to be protected from the darts of the enemy. Yet the choice is ours on whose side to take and whose amour to put on.
Ohiz, I shared the same texts Eph.6:12-20, today in our SS class. I thought those texts were more appropriate than others that were listed.
Am having problem with the venue where Satan meet with GOD on this incidence where The sons of GOD meets according to Job 1:6,7 and Job 2:1
Can some one help me?
*[[Isa 14:13]] KJV* For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
This is a place where satan was not allowed. It is the place where all the rulers of the other worlds came to meet with the Lord. (As we meet with the Lord on Sabbath) You will notice that the meetings are regular. (Job 1 and 2). Satan is an angel, not a ruler so he was not allowed to attend these meetings.
However, Satan came into the meeting (Job 1 and 2) because Adam had lost the rule of earth to satan. We have the promise that every Sabbath and New Moon we will go up to Jerusalem to worship. This is the way things have always worked in heaven.
This meeting place in heaven is Moed (H4150)in Hebrew. Genesis 1:14 also has Moed. God planned from creation for us to have regular meetings with Him.
Paul What is Moed in English?
Please permit me a reply, even though I'm not Paul.
The ancient Hebrew language has a relatively small vocabulary, compared to English, and the meaning of words is affected by their context. So a complete answer to your question would necessarily be very lengthy. You can check it out yourself by seeing the (Link goes directly to the entry for moed.) various ways the word is translated in the KJV, including 5 pages of references to texts translating moed in various ways. That will also help you to become acquainted with one of my favorite reference sites, BlueLetterBible.org.
Thanks alot
Am trying to learn it.
Pray for me
Thanks Inge for the link. The thread running through all these texts - God wants to meet with and live amongst his people. (H4150) Appointed time, appointed place, Holy convocation, sacred season, set feast, appointed season, appointed sign or signal, tent of meeting. Please note that there are other Holy Mountains in heaven.
*[[Eze 28:14]] KJV* Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain (H2022) of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. H2022 hill, mountain, hill country, mount. So you can see there are different mountains with different purposes.
Thanks may God be with you
Allow me quote the lesson writer on this segment "Who among us, as flesh, hasn’t felt that wrath?"
The wrath of satan can be felt in different ways: Unto Job he brought fire and wind to destroy property and his children.Job 1 vs 16,vs 19
We have all faced the wrath but what is more important is not to question ...does God really care?where was God? Jobs reaction at the time of distress is what should give us courage today.Job 1 vs 20,21 tore his robe, shaved the head and fell to the ground and worshiped.
Before Job worshiped..
1. Job rose..where does he gather the strength to rise? When the wrath comes we need to face it stand up and don't be weak and declare the "strife wont be long..Stand up stand up for Jesus Ye soldiers of the cross..let the courage rise despite the danger.
2. tore his robe...job decides to tell us not even the piece of cloth in his body is his own..he says.." nothing in my hands i bring simply to the cross i cling Naked, come to Thee for dress,
Helpless, look to Thee for grace"
3.Shaved his head....numbers 8vs7 ,Lev 14 vs 8 Jews shaved hair and beard in times of mourning, repentance or distress
4.Fell to the ground...
EMPTINESS BY FAITH...THIS IS PURE STEWARDSHIP.
Job 1 vs 21 Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
and naked I will depart.
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
may the name of the Lord be praised.”
22 In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.
As Christians we need to feel the emptiness of faith...Lord gave and the Lord has taken away...satisfaction
Memory Text: Job 2:10 (NKJV)
10 But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
The prayer of Job in Job 1 vs 20-22 give Job the courage to rebuke the wife out of love: it portrays that she was a good woman and had always thought to be so;but now spake not like herself but like carnal persons job was reminding the wife James 1;17, Lam 3:38 is it not from the mouth of the Most high that both calamities and good things come?
This is the true expression of piety. It submits to all the arrangements of God without a complaint. It receives blessings with gratitude; it is resigned when calamities are sent in their place. It esteems it as a mere favor to be permitted to breathe the air which God has made, to look upon the light of his sun, to tread upon his earth, to inhale the fragrance of his flowers, and to enjoy the society of the friends whom he gives; and when he takes one or all away, it feels that he has taken only what belongs to him, and withdraws a privilege to which we had no claim. In addition to that, true piety feels that all claim to any blessing, if it had ever existed, has been forfeited by sin. What right has a sinner to complain when God withdraws his favor?
Last Sabbath in our class, I seemed to have brought a controversy which I accept to be corrected. When Satan was asked by God whether he had considered his child Job, Satan talked about the protection that God had given to Job. I said that Satan does not know us as well as God does; his (Satan) tactics are based on a trial and error. God knows us far better but the devil tries just to catch us on our weaknesses. He does not know us, how do you view this?
