Sabbath: Seek the Lord and Live!
Read for This Week’s Study: Amos 5:1-15, Heb. 5:14, Isa. 5:20, Amos 7:10-17, 9:11-15, Acts 15:13-18.
Memory Text: “Seek good and not evil, that you may live; and thus may the Lord God of hosts be with you, just as you have said!” (Amos 5:14, NASB).
Key Thought: Amos reminds us that only in seeking the Lord is there life.
“Had Israel been true to God, He could have accomplished His purpose through their honor and exaltation. If they had walked in the ways of obedience, He would have made them ‘high above all nations which He hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honor.’‘All people of the earth,’ said Moses, ‘shall see that thou art called by the name of the Lord; and they shall be afraid of thee.’‘The nations which shall hear all these statutes’ shall say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’ Deut. 26:19, 28:10, 4:6. But because of their unfaithfulness, God’s purpose could be wrought out only through continued adversity and humiliation.”—Ellen G. White, The Desire of Ages, p. 28.
This week, as we continue to study the book of Amos, we will see even more of the ways in which the Lord pled with His people to put away their sins and return unto Him, the only true source of life. In the end, we all have only one of two choices: life or death. There is no middle ground. Amos shows us a little more about the stark differences between these choices.
Study this week’s lesson to prepare for Sabbath, May 4.
After reading this lesson I realised the trust God put on us which gives me a question are we doing enough as the church to help.
After studying this I realize that my approach to salvation is very selfish. It's too much about me and lesss of others.I need to share God's love and grace!
"But because of their unfaithfulness, God’s purpose could be wrought out only through continued adversity and humiliation." The things we bring upon ourselves. . . If only we would live in the "yes God", His ways forever at the forefront of our minds! Help us Father.
Marvin, Philip and Fuzile, thank you for those comments helping to put this lesson into perspective. I know that I have been given so much, and I need the forgiving and healing grace of God in my life, but I need Him to give me His love to reach out to others so much more!
Jackie, this is also my prayer. To whom much is given much is also required. I Plead with God Almighty to use me as He will and help me to follow His foot steps in my journey with.
The lesson made us to understand that it is because of Israel's disobedient and unfaithfulness to God, that makes God to not fulfill all His promises towards His chosen nation Israel. God have given us so many promise as well, He is willing to do just as he has said only if we will turn from our sins and come to Him, trust, believe, be obedient, and be faithful to Him and do his word. I pray that God in his infinite love and mercy will give us the willing heart to live by his word and always be faithful to him, in Jesus name! IN ORDER TO LIVE, LET US SEEK GOD AND DO GOOD TO OTHERS!

God has given us this priviledge to extend His love to others. He requires our participation cause of the blessings attached to the work.
Deuteronomy 30:19-20 NLT
“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
God hands us a glass of milk, the devil a glass of strychnine, both are white. Choose the glass of milk.

Hey Rene.
Exodus 20 says. Not to do any work, it's referring to you the stranger or your neighbour. Now surely in a pinch I don't see a problem but even though here in North America or most "modern" parts of the world many of us can afford to miss a meal. We surely won't starve.
But seek The Lord for in the study of his word, it's all there, I'm sure He'll reveal the answer to you.
Bro.
indeed God loved us and gave us talents inform of gifts so that we preach about His kingdom but because we dont love God thats why we are failing to show up and use our talents accordingly
Hi Rene.....i'm not really sure, but i was thinking about that time when the children of Israel used to collect a double portion on Friday so that they were not going to do that on Sabbath. But as D said, read your Bible & Spirit of prophecy prayerfully God will surely reveal it to you clearely.
