Sunday: My Redeemer Liveth
When God appeared to Job in chapter 38, He revealed Himself to Job as the Creator, who “ ‘divided a channel for the overflowing water,’ ” the One who made “ ‘a path for the thunderbolt, to cause it to rain on a land where there is no one’ ” (Job 38:25-26, NKJV). Our Lord, though, isn’t only the Creator. He has another crucial title and role, as well.
Read Job 19:25–27. What do these words reveal about Job’s hope of salvation?
With these famous verses, Job shows that he had some knowledge of the Redeemer, some knowledge that, though people died, there was hope beyond the grave, and this hope was found in the Redeemer, who was to come to the earth one day.
These words of Job point to what is the most crucial and important truth in the Bible: God as our Redeemer. Yes, God is our Creator. But in a fallen world, in a world of sinners doomed to die eternally in their sins, we need more than a Creator. We need a Redeemer, as well. And that’s precisely who our God is: both our Creator and our Redeemer (see Isa. 48:13–17), and it’s from Him in both those roles that we have the great hope of eternal life.
Read John 1:1–14. In this passage, how does John tie together Jesus as Creator with Jesus as our Redeemer?
The allusion to Genesis 1:1, God as Creator, is obvious in John 1:1. And if that weren’t enough, these words—“He was in the world, and the world was made through Him. . . . But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:10–12; NKJV)—make the link between Jesus as Creator and Redeemer inseparable. Indeed, it’s only because He is the Creator that He can be our Redeemer, as well.
If we had only a Creator but no Redeemer, what hope would we have? What does your answer say about why Jesus as Redeemer is so important to us? |
The daily communication of Job with God revealed alot of mysteries that no one else in his time knew about. No wonder God revealed to him that there's hope beyond the grave. Alot can be revealed to us too if we strengthen our relationship with God.
Perhaps the greatest quote we can take from Job’s speeches, found in the middle of the book, was Job 19:25-27…
“For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at the last on the earth; and after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!” NKJV
Yes, Job knew whom he was trusting and for what reason. Our Savior will not leave us in the grave. Someday we will see Him face to face in all His glory. Job longed for the final end to our sin and pain-filled planet, when all suffering will be over.
My question then is,If Job had this knowledge and hope of redemption, why did he protest so loudly over his present condition? How did his friends increase his agitation and discontent, as their speeches continued?
"My question then is, If Job had this knowledge and hope of redemption, why did he protest so loudly over his present condition?"
Perhaps because in some ways, Job was just like us... When in pain, we complain... and for the same reasons as Job: we don't see clearly... yet (1 Corinthians 13:12).
Job know that God is a creator but his ideas about redeemer is his challenge and after God revealed himself to him make him understand that God is both creator and redeemer
There is hope in being faithful to God. Satan strives to delink us from God through cornering us as he did with Job.Praise God Job was not shaken with material losses and poor physical health. He had unshakable hope in the creator and Redeemer who lives and would one day recreate him.Let this unconditional hope be in us.
Just suppose there was no resurrection or heaven to look forward to. How important would it be to a person to have their sins forgiven?
Good question Bud! Those who are pure in heart are sorry for their sins because of the pain they have caused, and not because they are missing out on a reward. Judah shows us true repentance in Genesis 44, when he tells Joseph to let him stay and be a slave instead of Benjamin. He explains that it broke the father's heart when Joseph was lost, and it would break his heart again if Benjamin did not return. Judah had broken his father's heart once, and would rather die a slave in a foreign land than to break his heart again. Those who are pure in heart would also rather die than break our Father's heart again. Being forgiven is not about the reward of eternal life. It is about bringing healing to those we have hurt.
Thank you William.
Job fully believed that a living redeemer will rescue him from death in the future.
Nevertheless, he didn’t have to wait long to see his Redeemer. He introduced Himself as the Creator (Job 38-41).
Amen#
Thank you for being able to know more about the Bible and God.
If Satan can draw one third of the Angels to fall by deception, who are we to not be confused by him. It is only by faith that one can overcome and that without being able to reason it all out before hand. God so loved you that he gave his only begotten son to undo Satan's ability to deceive even the weakest of us. It was only by faith that Job was able to beat Satan at his game, for understanding the reason of his plight was not possible. But his love of God was sealed regardless. I can't imagine how thankful God was to see one respond to his love even under pressure under such confusion. God help me also for the confusion just ahead of us.
Thank God for the Light so we can see that we all need Jesus to redeem us.Only the Creator/Owner can redeem us, there is no one else, the question is, who first owns us? Can't be anybody else, can't be anything else, they were all created by Jesus, they are owned, not our Owner. Only Jesus rightfully can redeem us.He paid the eternal price to redeem us and He is coming back to earth to take back His own.
Oh for a faith like Job .A faith that is rooted in acts of my God centered will.A will which lays hold upon the promises of God, that I may understand that “Nightmares only last for the night”
If we didn't have a redeemer then we would've any hope of life after death, but because our redeemer Jesus Christ died and was resurrected we now have hope that after death we can have eternal life.
Job was well conversant with the story of Lot redemption, Noah and even Abraham. In addition Job knew of the creation story, that there was to be a redeemer who was to come and rescue man after the fall and all these is what gave Job hope beyond the grave.
