Sunday: The First Sacrifice

Sabbath School Net Posted on October 12, 2013 by Sabbath School LessonApril 7, 2017avatar

Read Genesis 3:9–21. What was God’s response to Adam and Eve after they sinned? Adam and Eve lived in a perfect world, in a sanctuary-like garden, and God granted them face-to-face communion with their Creator. Their first sin opened a nearly insurmountable breach in their relationship to God. However, God had already planned how to … Continue reading –>

What Difference Does It Make?

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 21, 2013 by Lillianne LopezFebruary 14, 2016avatar

Several years ago, when we were all much younger, I was taking my older son, KC to his first cello lesson with a new teacher. I think he was in the third grade, and my younger son, Justin, was in second grade. If this hadn’t been the first lesson with this teacher, I would have … Continue reading –>

09: Marriage: A Gift from Eden – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on February 27, 2013 by Joyce GriffithAugust 31, 2013Joyce Griffith

[Thought questions for Marriage: A gift from Eden February 27, 2013] 1. Marriage in Eden. Can you imagine a more ideal setting for a young couple to establish their home than the Garden of Eden? Where did the floral arrangements come from? Who presided over the wedding ceremony? Who pronounced Adam and Eve husband and … Continue reading –>

Captive

Sabbath School Net Posted on February 7, 2013 by Lillianne LopezSeptember 23, 2014avatar

In his book, The Three Edwards, Thomas Costain tells the story of three kings of England from 1272 to 1377 all of whom were conveniently and confusingly named Edward. According to a well-used illustration from Costain’s book, in the mid to late 1300’s, there was a Duke Raynald III. He was extremely overweight. He was … Continue reading –>

06: Creation and the Fall – Thoughts Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on February 6, 2013 by Joyce GriffithSeptember 6, 2016Joyce Griffith

[Thought questions for Creation and the Fall February 6, 2013] 1. Enmity from God. Why did God put enmity between the woman and the snake in the Garden of Eden? (Gen 3:15). How is that sense of hostility carried out even to this day? Why does the Bible refer to the devil as a snake or serpent throughout Scripture? … Continue reading –>

A Thin Green Line – Christian Environmentalism

Sabbath School Net Posted on February 20, 2012 by Lillianne LopezJuly 23, 2013avatar

I am a Christian who believes that God created everything in six literal days and then literally rested on the seventh day. Having said that, I’m not sure that I’ve spent enough time thinking about how that should shape my interactions with the things that God created in, say, the first five days of Creation … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
