The Change of the Law – Teaching Plan
Key Thought : The law of God is the most concrete element of Biblical religion. It is on the law, and the Sabbath, that religious fidelity will be tested.
1. Have a volunteer read Romans 7:22-8:1.

A. Ask class members to share what the most important point of this text is.
B. What is the problem with trying to overcome our sins?
C. Personal Application : What is the difference between walking in the Spirit and walking in the flesh? Is there a difference for salvation? Share your thoughts.
D. Case Study: One of your relatives states, “Because Jesus died for our sins on the cross, there is no condemnation. We are not under the law of sin and death anymore. We are under grace and don’t need to follow the old letter of the law.” How would you reply to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Romans 7:10-14.
A. Ask class members to share what the most important point of this text is.
B What is the relationship between the law and sin?
E. Personal Application : If the law is holy, just, and good; why are there so many people who don’t want to keep or follow God’s law? Share your thoughts.
F. Case Study: One of your friends states, “How did Paul find the law, which was ordered for life, to be unto death? How is it ordained for life? If the law is spiritual and we are carnal, how can we be expected to be able to live by the law?” How would you reply to your relative?
3. Have a volunteer read Acts 13:42-44.
A. Ask class members to share what the most important point of this text is.
B. What do these verses tell us about Paul’s relationship to Sabbath and Sunday worship?
C. Personal Application : What has been your own experience with those who argue for Sunday instead of Sabbath? Share your thoughts.
D. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “Keeping the Sabbath is an attempt to earn salvation by works, and denies the grace that God has given us. That’s the old law that leads to death..” How would you reply to your relative?
4. Have a volunteer read Daniel 7:23-25.
A. Ask class members to share what the most important point of this text is.
B. What do these verses teach us about the changes of the law and the Sabbath in particular?
