The Elect – Teaching Plan
Key Thought: Salvation through faith in Jesus Christ is available to all people, if they choose to put their faith in Him..
1. Have a volunteer read Romans 11:1-7
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. Is there any group of people on earth that is beyond God’s grace? How can those who believe in Buddha or Allah and reject the idea of Christ’s Divinity be reached?
c. Personal Application : Why is it a wrong concept to believe that everyone will be eventually saved? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “Did God purposely reject any group of people in terms of salvation? Did God purposely blind the Jews who rejected Jesus to salvation? Did He purposely harden Pharoah’s heart?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Romans 11:11-15
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. Do you think it is easier or harder today for a Jewish person to accept Jesus as Lord? Why or why not?
c. Personal Application : Could a selective understanding of the Jewish religion help you better understand your Christian faith? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “I thought Peter was the head of the church. Why does Paul say he is the apostle to the Gentiles? Didn’t Jesus tell Peter to feed His sheep, indicating that Peter was to be the head teacher of the church?” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read Romans 11:25-27.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. Should the Adventist church be the one most successful in reaching out to Jews? What can the church do to reach Jews in the community?
c. Personal Application: What can we learn from the mistakes of ancient Israel? How can we avoid doing or thinking the same way today? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “This text says all the Jews will eventually be saved along with the Gentile believers. So this shows God did not reject Israel and there must be an age of dispensation when the Jews come back into power as God’s people.” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Romans 11:32-34.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. When do you feel the most connected with the people around you?
c. Personal Application : Is there someone you need to show mercy to, who perhaps doesn’t deserve it? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
