The Results of Stewardship – Teaching Plan
Key Thought: The results of stewardship depend upon God. The human element is the variable. To improve the results, we must improve our stewardship.
1. Have a volunteer read 2 Timothy 3:1-8.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. What does it mean always learning but never coming to a knowledge of the truth?
c. Personal Application : How can we make sure that we do more than know and understand the truth: that we live it? What is a reprobate mind? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “When it says these people have a form of godliness, but deny the power of it, what are they really saying?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 3:5.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What does it mean not to lean on our own understanding? Aren’t we supposed to use our brains and common sense?
c. Personal Application: If there are things we can control, how do we trust in the Lord with all our might and not choose our own way? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “Why is being content showing trust in God? If we are not content with what we have or what situation we are in, is this showing a lack of trust in God?” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read I Peter 2:11,12.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What are some ways that negative influences might drive people away from God?
c. Personal Application: How might good works and honest conversation in church members change the community in which you live? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “Why does this Scripture tell us to do good works and have honest conversation when they are going to speak against us as evildoers anyway? Why then would they speak against us as evildoers? How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read Matthew 5:16.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What good works do you understand would help your light shine and glorify God?
c. Personal Application: Are we guilty of not doing enough good works that our lights are dim and God is not glorified? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
