Vale Shirley de Beer

It is with much sadness that I have to report that Shirley de Beer passed away today. She has been in hospital with a kidney infection and although it was hoped that she would pull through and rejoin us on Sabbath School Net, that was not to be. Her relatives said that she died strong in her faith and is now at peace and free from pain.

Shirley, who lived in South Africa, has been involved with Sabbath School Net from the very early days when it was an email list, We encouraged her to participate in the Blog and ultimately she became a moderator and was also responsible for finding illustrations for the daily lesson studies. 

We miss you Shirley and look forward to the fulfillment of the blessed hope when we will be able to meet you in person.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Rev 21:4 KJV

Maurice Ashton is a retired lecturer who lives in Australia. He taught Science and Mathematics at high school level before taking a research interest in Computer Science. He lectured at Avondale College for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2012. He is married to Carmel and they have two adult children and two grand children. Currently Maurice is pursuing a keen interest in bird photography and spends much of his time sitting in swamps observing and photographing birds. He has been involved with Sabbath School Net since about 1997.

  7. Shirley will be deeply missed, since she has done so much to make our blog work. When she took on a job, she was always faithful in fulfilling it without needing reminders or encouragement.

    As mentioned, she found illustrations for the blog for years and forwarded them to Gerald Greene, who puts up the daily blog posts. And, as you all know, she was a diligent Bible student, as revealed by her many contributions, first to the Sabbath School Net email list and later to this blog.

    On top of that, she agreed to help moderate the blog. It was/is this moderation that makes this blog a good place to discuss Bible topics. Moderation is not an easy job, and it requires sanctified judgment to balance the needs of individual contributors with the effect on the overall impact of this blog. No number of rules can take the place of good judgment.

    We mourn her passing with her family and friends. And we look forward to meeting Shirley after the resurrection. What a day that will be!

  12. Shirley will be greatly missed. I always learned from her contributions and was blessed by her perspective. I feel as if I knew her personally, along with each contributor to the forum. I look forward to meeting each of the SSNET family on that blessed day when Christ returns for His people. I pray for all those whose lives she touched, who have been blessed by her influence, that each one would join her in that heavenly kingdom.

  17. My deepest condolences to the family! I will certainly miss her indepth and insightful contributions. There's no one word or phrase to express my profound gratitude of the bible truths I have benefitted from over the years. I have utilized her remarks as well as others from this platform in my SS and discourses. As sad as the news is, I'm encouraged that on that great getting up morning we/I will meet Sis. Shirley!
