Wednesday: Christ in Revelation – Part 1
Everything in Revelation, from the structure to the content, has one purpose: to reveal Jesus Christ.
That’s why the opening words of the book are, “The revelation of Jesus Christ” (Apocalypsis Iesou Christou) .
This is generally understood as (1) “the revelation from Jesus Christ;” or (2) “the revelation about Jesus Christ” (Rev. 1:2) . The fact that it is a “revelation” argues against those who believe Revelation is too hard to understand. Why would the Lord have included the book in the Bible if He hadn’t meant for it to be understood by those who read it?
Read Revelation 1:1-8. What do these verses teach us about Jesus?
In Revelation, Christ is introduced as “the ruler of the kings of the earth” (Rev. 1:5, NIV) and near the end of the book He is described as “King of kings” (Rev. 19:16) . The great news here is that amid all the chaos and confusion on earth, we can have the assurance that our loving Lord and Savior has ultimate control.
In Revelation 1:5, we have been given a clear reference to Christ as the Redeemer. “To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood” (NKJV) points to His atoning death on the cross. He has not only justified us but sanctified us, as well (1 Cor. 6:11). In texts like this we can find assurance of salvation, because it shows us that Jesus is the One who washes away our sins. We certainly can’t do it ourselves. Read Revelation 1:7. What does this teach us about Jesus?
Central to the whole Christian faith is the promise of Christ’s return “with the clouds”. Jesus will come again, a literal return in an event that the whole world will witness, an event that once and for all ends the suffering, chaos, and ruin of this world and ushers in all the promises of eternity.
What does Revelation 1:8 teach us about Jesus? What hope can we find in this verse that can give us comfort amid whatever trials we are facing? |
Revelation 1:8
8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.
I am - always the same,
Alpha and Omega - I know the end from the beginning. Nothing you do surprises Me.
Who is - making intercession
Who was - made a sacrifice for us
Who is to come - King of kings, Lord of lords
To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen
In Christ we anchor our faith, for it is Him who gives us faith and nurtures our faith. At the same time He blesses us with the fruits of the Spirit.
Christ Jesus also said behold I come quickly and my reward is with me to give to all men according to his work done. ( And we also say that this day is the last pay day on earth be it an empty or a complete check. No one is going to be left out).
Thank God because of His Love! Thank God because of Jesus. He is the purest demonstration of how much God loves us! He is everything we can hope for, the begining and the end, before, now and forever, our true Lawyer to defend us! Who created us and died for us! To Him all glory, all might, all power! We owned Him all, and all we have to do is to freely choose Him! Because He chose us first!
Can someone explain who/what the seven spirits are?
Here's my take on the seven spirits
7 spirits=these are portrayed as 7 lamps of fire ch.4:5, 7 eyes of the lamb ch.5:6
They represent the Holy Spirit. 7=perfection
The Holy Spirit with the fullness and perfection of His gifts and operation.
7=the diversity or fullness of His operations
Sources: A Verse by Verse Commentary on Daniel and the Revelation, the SDA Bible commentary and Daniel and the Revelation, Uriah Smith
To add to what Jane shared, the "7 spirits" are the heavenly reality represented by the 7-branched lamp in the Old Testament sanctuary. We know that the oil that caused the lamps to give light represented the Holy Spirit.
Revelation 1:8 says that jesus is The Almighty.
The Apostle John says in Revelation 1:6 that Jesus has made us KINGS AND PRIESTS to His Father. WOW! that means that I am A KING and also A PRIEST! WOW!!!! Praise GOD!
Revelation 1:7 states Every eye shall see him even THOSE that pierced him. This is very important because it will aid us in not falling for the deception of the Anti-Christ's immitation of an arrival. For only God can resurrect them that perished so long ago. In addition to the fact that the whole world will see his arrival.
