13: Women and Wine – Lesson Plan
Key Thought : The lifestyle choices we make are not trivial issues, but have major effects. It is best to follow God’s lifestyle directives.
[Lesson plan for Women and Wine March 23, 2015]
1. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 31:3-5,8,9.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. How does media impact a person’s thinking on alcoholic beverages?
c. Personal Application: Have you ever been involved in drinking situations? What were the results? Is it only for kings to avoid alcohol? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your relatives states: “How can we help our young people to stay clear of what will bring harm to them and others?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 31:10-15.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. How can wives and mothers be encouraged and praised throughout the year?
c. Personal Application: In what ways do you help the wives and mothers in your church family feel love, appreciation, honor, and support for what they do? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your friends states, “A virtuous woman like described here is very hard to find. Most modern women are not looking to build up and support their husbands, but are only concerned with themselves.” How would you respond to your neighbor?
3. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 31:26-31.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. Why is there such a high esteem placed on beauty in this world?
c. Personal Application: Do you know hard working and faithful women? Do they teach with kind words and wisdom? Share your thoughts..
d. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “Most of the families I know are dysfunctional. Children disobey and curse their mothers. Parents don’t educate their children in Christian ways, and the homes are sloppy and unkempt. Where is this virtuous woman?” How would you respond to your friend?
4. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 31:20,25.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. How important is it to think of and act on the needs of others?
c. Personal Application: Is there anyone you know that has a need? What can you do to help them with that need? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
