God alone knows how many millions, even billions, of people struggle with some form of addiction. To this day, scientists still don’t understand exactly what causes it, even though in some cases they actually can see the part of our brain in which the cravings and desires are located. Unfortunately, finding the locations of those … Continue reading –>

9: Times of Loss – Singing With Inspiration

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 27, 2019 by Corinne KnopperMay 27, 2019avatar
Playing notes of hymns

In the losses studied this week, the question is asked, “Will Your Anchor Hold?” – Hymn 534. We are reminded “My Shepherd Will Supply My Need” – Hymn 104 and that “He Leadeth Me” – Hymn 537. The prayer in Hymn 644, “O God, Whose Will Is Life and Good” requests the Lord to drive disease afar, rather than suffering the … Continue reading –>

Another way that trust is lost is through family violence. Unthinkable as it is, research reveals that the home is the single most violent place in society. Family violence touches all kinds of families, including Christian homes. Violence is an assault of any kind—verbal, physical, emotional, sexual, or active or passive neglect—that is committed by … Continue reading –>

Monday: Loss of Trust

We are all sinful, dysfunctional people who at some time will prove ourselves to be untrustworthy to someone who trusted us. And who hasn’t been the victim of someone else’s betrayal of our trust? And, as hard as such a loss of trust can be, it’s always so much worse when we betray, or are … Continue reading –>

Sunday: Loss of Health

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 25, 2019 by Sabbath School LessonMay 24, 2019avatar

We are thousands of years from the tree of life; and we all feel it, too, especially when it comes to our physical health. Sooner or later, unless we are killed when young by trauma, we all come to the harsh reality of the loss of health. And, as difficult as the loss of health … Continue reading –>

Inside Story: China ~ Why I Quit My Job

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 22, 2019 by Sabbath School LessonMay 22, 2019avatar

Why I Quit My Job By Bo, as told to Andrew McChesney A remarkable experience prompted me to quit my 17-year job as a worker at a thread-making factory and devote myself to full-time gospel work in China. When I was 39, my son wanted to go to a trade school to become a lathe … Continue reading –>

Spectacles on Bible

Further Study: “You should take time to talk and pray with your little ones, and you should allow nothing to interrupt that season of communion with God and with your children. You can say to your visitors, ‘God has given me a work to do, and I have no time for gossiping’. You should feel that … Continue reading –>

Thursday: Fighting for Your Prodigal Child

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 22, 2019 by Sabbath School LessonMay 20, 2019avatar

Read Proverbs 22:6. What is your understanding of this passage? Is this a guarantee, a promise, or a probability? Sometimes as a parent you do everything you should—spend time teaching your children the right things, live according to your knowledge of God, send them to good schools, attend church regularly, become involved in mission work with … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: Parenting as Disciple-Making

Read Genesis 18:18-19 and 1 Samuel 3:10-14. Contrast these two fathers. What were the results of their parenting styles? Parents have a responsibility to be the disciplemakers of their children, so they will become disciples of Jesus themselves. There are parents who believe that the way to teach and correct their children is by applying physical punishment—the more, … Continue reading –>

8: Seasons of Parenting – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 20, 2019 by Joyce GriffithMay 27, 2019Joyce Griffith
Mother and child

Parenting issues by God’s people.  Especially in the Old Testament, the Bible shares stories both of parenting and of being childless as well as the agony of losing children through death or never having children due to circumstances. Still, in some sense, aren’t we all parents? Don’t we all sense a spirit of love and obligation … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
