02: Love and Judgment: God’s Dilemma – Thought Starters — 3 Comments

  1. It is very important for us to understand God's True nature and His attitude towards sin and mankind. While God is longsuffering abounding in patience and slow to anger in the salvation of mankind, God remain stern and hateful towards sin (idolatry, apostasy). We sometimes don't seem to contrast the two sides of God's attitude towards sin and the salvation of mankind. Throughout the Bible God, when it comes to sin He never tonedown or lower His standard on sin. God condemns sin and promised Hs consuming anger towards sin and at the sametime, showing mercy and grace towards His backsliding people. We must diligently seek to gain the full revealed knowledge of God's will and character for us. It is possible, for He promised the Holy Spirit to teach us of His will. Thank You Jesus.

  2. Judgement and Grace United

The relationship of judgement and grace in the book Hosea is pointing to the final consummation of the two at the cross. Our sin, deserving righteous judgement, was laid upon Christ, the Lamb of God (John 1:29). He was executed on our behalf. In order to be righteous, God has to carry out jugdement. Having done this, He graciously imputes Christ`s righteousness and sinlessness upon us (Isaiah 53:4-5; Romans 3:25). We are treated as if we were sinless, even if we are not (1 John 2:1). Judgement and righteousness, God`s wrath and God`s love meet at the cross. There is inseparable and indestructible unity.

In the book of Hoesa judgement is carried out in the Assyrien captivity (Hosea 10:6; 11:5-6). At the same time God`s mercy is burning within His heart (Hosea 11:8). How can God as a father give up his own son, Israel? (Hosea 11:1; Deuteronomy 1:31). He will ransom them not only from captivity but also from the power of the grave and redeem them from death (Hosea 11:11; 13:14). In God there is no grace without judgement and no judgement without grace. Both are combined already in the Old Testament.

  3. God ways are not man ways, sometimes he uses things around us to still remind us that he still love and care for us. Example, hosea marriage to gomer (spiritual aldultry) using such command as a reminder of his love to isreal......God still loves you no matter how sinfull you are, just come to him and all will be well...
