Key Thought : Josiah’s reforms with all his zeal, enthusiasm, and determination demonstrated that it was possible to follow God faithfully and bring temporary peace to the nation.
Josiah’s Reform, November 14- 21, 2015
1. Have a volunteer read 2 Kings 22:3-7.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. What did Josiah do when he discovered the temple in such disarray? Why do you think it took 18 years before he decided to repair it?
c. Personal Application : How important is the maintenance of the church building to you? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your relatives states: “I don’t think the building is important. The upkeep and maintenance of the church member’s spiritual lives and relationship with Christ is what needs revival and reformation.” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read 2 Kings 22:8,11,14,18-20.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. What was Huldah’s message to Josiah and to his people?
c. Personal Application : Why isn’t reform a one time event in our Christian experience? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your friends states, “Why wouldn’t God change His mind about making Jerusalem a desolation and curse if the king could get them to change their ways and turn again to the Lord as He had promised before?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
3. Have a volunteer read 2 Kings 23:1-5.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. How can we ensure that our work is for the right reasons and not for selfish reasons of recognition or earning points with God?
c. Personal Application: What should the symbolism of the Passover mean to us now, as Seventh-day Adventists? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study : One of your neighbors states, “If it was too late for the people, why the call for repentance, revival, and reformation? What was the purpose of it all?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read 2 Kings 22:1,2.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What is so remarkable about these texts concerning Josiah?
c. Personal Application: How can we influence our youth to be found faithful to God in their lives? Share your thoughts.
