Memory Text: “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us — for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree’ ” (Galatians 3:13, ESV).
A little boy had made a little boat, all painted and fixed up beautifully. One day someone stole his boat, and he was distressed. In passing a pawnshop one day he saw his boat. Happily he ran in to the pawnbroker and said, ‘That is my little boat.’ ‘No,’ said the pawnbroker, ‘it is mine, for I bought it.’ ‘Yes,’ said the boy, ‘but it is mine, for I made it.’ ‘Well,’ said the pawnbroker, ‘if you will pay me two dollars, you can have it.’ That was a lot of money for a boy who did not have a penny. Anyway, he resolved to have it; so he cut grass, did chores of all kinds, and soon had his money.
“He ran down to the shop and said, ‘I want my boat.’ He paid the money and received his boat. He took the boat up in his arms, and hugged and kissed it, and said, ‘You dear little boat, I love you. You are mine. You are twice mine. I made you, and now I have bought you.’
“So it is with us. We are, in a sense, twice the Lord’s. He created us, and we got into the devil’s pawnshop. Then Jesus came and bought us at awful cost — not silver and gold, but His precious blood. I love that story of a stolen boat so much. It teaches me how much Jesus loves me and the value He places on me. It is wonderful.
Marilyn, I too love this story of the little boy and his boat that I heard as a child and never forgot. Jesus' life blood on Calvary was the price for our drifted souls. There's a beautiful song that goes with the story called 'Two Times You're Mine'. If it has to be removed from here because of copyright issues you can find it on Youtube. God bless.
What a powerful memory text for the week.
Christ bore the curse of the law. For the law's demands were that every Soul That Sins Will Die For His Own Sin. He suffered its penalty, carrying to completion the plan whereby man was to be placed where he could keep God’s law. This was God's vow ". . .the soul that sinneth, it shall die". Ezek 18:4 . Without Christ, the transgressors were left under its curse, with no gimplse of hope for getting a pardon. Christ made an end of sin, bearing its heavy curse in His own body on the tree. He hath took away the the transgressor's portion of that curse from all those who believe in Him as a personal Saviour..
Yes, this story, and the message behind it, made me cry! Praise Jesus, our Saviour! Blessing to everyone!
Paulette, I too remember learning the song "two times you're mine". The words are such a blessing! One can never tire of hearing of God's amazing love. I pray that those who haven't heard it will listen.
This story is a powerful demonstration of love and as I read i couldnt help but think of all Christ did for me and how strong ,deep ,true and great his love for me is . Hymn 79 in the Seventh Day hymnal could not put it better ... Thank you Jesus for the love . I feel special .
