8: Unity in Faith – Teaching Plan

1. Have a volunteer read I Thessalonians 4:13-18.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
- What does this tell us about the manner of Christ’s second coming?
- Personal Application: How can we keep the reality of the second coming before us after all the years that have passed?. Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your relatives states: “There is so much trouble in the world today. The secret rapture is a just around the corner. I certainly don’t want to be here when the world starts falling apart. ” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Hebrews 8:6-12.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
- What does this tell us about Jesus’ priestly ministry in heaven?
- Personal Application: What does the earthly Day of Atonement reveal and mean to you as we live in the heavenly Day of Judgment? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: One of your friends states, “What difference does it make whether there is a sanctuary in heaven or not? Aren’t we told not to set dates and observe times in the Bible?” How would you reply to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read Exodus 20:8-11..
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- What is the meaning of the Sabbath for mankind?
- Personal Application: How has the Sabbath helped you experience unity and fellowship in the church? Share your thoughts
- Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “What difference does it make whether we keep one day holy or another day? We need to have unity in the church among Christians and not be unreasonable about arguing over small things like what day we go to church.” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read 1 Corinthians 15:51-54.
- Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
- How does our understanding of death help us appreciate the promise of His second coming?
- Personal Application: How does believing that Jesus does not come to us at death and is coming visibly, audibly, and personally in the clouds bring un ity in the church? Share your thoughts.
- Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
